who else remembers those very first moments on elite

I first played it in ggp when we started with 100k and a free sidey, from there I went to a station bought a eagle, during the first week of playing I was traveling to a system where I ran out of fuel and I thought I could fly there without having to high wake lol
What was your first moments?

1984 and I remember getting Elite as a present. To this day I still haven't forgotten that feeling, that sense of awe when I docked with my first station.

I remember not being able to shoot cargo in the first training mission and getting really annoyed because I had to go to work almost as soon as it downloaded :(

I remember almost uninstalling during the docking tutorial because for whatever reason it just was not clicking with me lol Really glad I stuck with it though because it turned out to be one if the best games I've ever played

The first moment in Elite, gosh that was 33 years ago....
I remember opening the black box with this huge golden Elite symbol on the front.
A novel, Commander instruction manual, poster, keyboard overlay and a cassette tape.
Ten minutes waiting untill the data from the tape was loaded into my Commodore 64 and then the journey began.

After reading the manual I made my first jump and traveled to Leesti, not knowing why, what or how I was going to make money, fight a pirate or run when a Thargoid would pull me out of witchspace.
The months after that I was completely absorbed by Elite and it still brings up fond memories.

Oooh the OP meant Elite Dangerous, well almost the same as the above without the books, poster, etc. but with a lot more ooohs and aaaahs.

I remember David Braben talking to Phil Spencer at E3 and saying not only was elite coming to Xbox but it would be available straight after the interview and I downloaded it straight away as I had played the first elite on my speccy as a kid and had been watching you tube vids of pc cmdrs with soo much envy.
From the very first moment I loved it but I'm also a massive dark souls fan so I guess I'm a fan of getting my back side handed to me.

I wonder sometimes how many people bought it on Xbox before me because I've got to be close to one of the first ...any records of that kind of stuff Gary?

Was docking at a station different to what it is now, mailslot etc

Actually no, my first session with elite dangerous doing the training docking was so evocative of that first dock on the BBC Model B. Thing that caught me out was having to land it once through the slot, you just got docked at that point in the original.

I remember the flight check of the first time I was taking off in the training mission Sidewinder, thinking "Am I going to have to do this every time I launch?!?"
Thankfully I found you could toggle it off.

I also remember taking off for the very first time from Bolton Hub in Cheneti during Gamma. The feeling of excitement that I was taking off in my own ship for the first time in a new Elite game.
I clearly remember making my first jumps to Turir and coming in to dock for the first time at Brooks Terminal.
I remember when Heng Port in Dulos got renamed to Milnor Station back in January 3301.

I couldn't engage sc because the hard points were deployed and I was like what the hell is a hardpont.... I had to google it and found the forums

this was pre training missions

It was in the GPP, I think it was the first few days, because I have a habit of checking the store for new stuff every few days

I completed the pre-flight checklist thinking "This is a cool way to introduce your controls" and I took off... and promptly boosted into the front wall of the station.

I then began again with a more cautious approach, and having made it through the mailslot I turned sharply and... got tangled up in the bars surrounding the exterior

Once I finally made it out of the first station and made my first jump I approached the singular nightmare of lining up with a rotating mailslot from outside to dock... then I needed a map to find my landing pad...

The crazy thing is as frustrating as it all was, I loved this game. I loved it for how real it was, for it's detail and beauty, for how it made you pay attention, for how unforgiving the learning curve is... It isn't easy to carve out a living throwing yourself around the galaxy in a tin can, and to all the Commanders who made it past that first preview hour, o7

I ran across the preview before launch and I read that it was a 1:1 scale of our galaxy and I instantly forked over the $12 or whatever it was.

Then I started the game, couldn't wrap my head around the movement and couldn't even get out the station.
I played 10 minutes and gave up.
Then one day out of boredom I fired it up again, this time at least pretending to pay attention through tutorial vid.
Was able to pull out the station and never looked back :)

Sadly in mid '15 I had to stop playing, and finally returned 2 months ago to install Horizons and WOW! Taking it all in at once from where the game was 2 yrs ago..... absolutely amazing and so damn glad I found my way back.

That being said will the mods for the love of God please change my user name as requested! Lol

Ah yes, my first launch from Lave Station in a Cobra Mk 3... Weird controls... All those red buttons at the top. But I had my 100Cr and I was happy.

So much has changed since '84

Ha I did enjoy it myself. ... But I changed my xbox gamer tag to Doookie Shoes quite some time ago.
Just want my name here to be Doookie Shoes so it matches.
And I'm not really that sophomoric, it's from a comedy bit :)

Ahh yeah your on my friends list .
I don't think you were ever crusty on my list though.
There does seem to be a nasty and messy theme going on with your tags .
I'm off to look up sophomoric .:)

Edit
Lol I thought it was going to be something to do with fecal matter
Sorry if I've dragged this thread way off topic into a weird place im finished promise.

Yeah I used to be Leathery Crust on Xbox.
You and one other guy on my friends list that even play this and not sure when we connected. I've never actually done anything in multiplayer yet, but I do remember you on the forums.

Just meant the name seems immature, but if you look up Tom Segura "The next 48" you'll get it. Made me laugh, it was 4 am, had to change my name lol
