Exploration - why the Anaconda?

All my deep space exploration so far has been with an Exp Asp and I thought I'd upgrade to an Anaconda to go out to Colonia. I see a lot of recomendations for the Anaconda as an exploration ship and I'd like to know why. I realise we all have our preferences but the Ana doesn't seem to have a greater jump range than the Exp Asp, is slow and difficult to manouvere, and has limited visibility through the cockpit. I'm beginning to think I wasted my credits. What's the upside that I'm missing here?

I like the space it gives me. More recently, with these new unknown objects having corrosive effects, with the anaconda I can fit enough CRCR's to hold all the unknown objects and still have space for 2 fighters, 4 srv's and cargo, on top of the scanners and fuel scoop. These I feel are all items that are needed when going out to explore the unknown. SRV's to cruise around in, SLF's to get that speedy jetski feeling above planet surfaces, and of course cargo for any other interesting Items I may come across.

So basically, to say again, it's because it allows me to have the space i need to feel like I can properly explore on not be hindered by lack thereof. I also like the big boat like feeling I get from it. Once more, with some engineering it really can shine!

It can be fitted to have more range than any other ship. Alternatively, it can carry more equipment then other exploration ships while still having range on par with them.

No other exploration worthy ship has a swimming pool, bar, disco and playboy mansion.

It does indeed jump farther. It has more internal space as well.

Before you say that you don't need that extra range, I will agree that you usually don't. The only need for it is to reach distant stars that you otherwise can't reach, or to shave time off a long journey if you have a destination in mind. It doesn't hurt a thing to maximize jump range. But you don't need the Annie if your AspX suits you just fine.

Why? Because it's a military ship that breaks every rule. Because the Anaconda is good at everything.

Undersize thrusters, power, distro and keep it light, and it leaves everything else for dead. 400t hull mass, baby (which is completely ignorant of newer large ships added that are 2-4 times heavier). That's why.

Why the Exploconda?

and with neutron boost

...and there are better ones than this.

Plus all the luxury :D

Yeah baby a Disco - every explorer needs one of these to help fight that deep space madness.

Can hear the Bee Gee's blasting out over the ship's speaker system - "Ah Ah AH Ah stayin alive stayin alive" Very fitting song for those poor souls out in the deep black :D

Actually I like the way you can get range by putting underpowered parts in it.
Makes me think of the dim and cavernous C deck of the Nostromo.

A while ago I was asking myself the same question. The end result was that there was only one reason for Anaconda and it was SLF. I really wanted to take it with me, allegedly for faster geyser search. So I equipped the Anaconda and went out. Before long I realized that flying SLF was not much different from flying my engineered ASP, except that I don't need to launch it at all. And the Anaconda's SC turning rate was getting on my nerves, A LOT.

I went back to ASP. Unless there are really cool exploration tools added into the game that ASP will not be able to carry... I'm staying. Anaconda does have immense slot capabilities but I just don't need them right now.

Besides the obvious reasons like internals and stuff i just LOVE it to carry a SLF around... its great for surface/pos scouting and if you get bored of Jump/Honk/Scan just look for a nice cannyon and have some fun... can be a total relief sometimes :)
