Engineers mission payouts

Hey CMDRS and Devs. Why are so many missions paying near nothing while passengers pay extreme amounts? I really enjoy all the mission types (I dont view any of it as "grind" to an end. Its all good fun.) but when I can make millions shuttling passengers one jump it kind of makes doing anything else seem less enjoyable with no reward. Non productive, I guess.

I'd like to suggest reducing the payouts for passengers and raising the payouts for just about everything else. Especially the types that require a bit more work than just jumping one or two times and landing on a station. The random ones I get in my comm panel as signal sources are a nice surprise that would be nice if they actually paid something worth the effort as well.

What do you all think?

This was meant for dangerous discussions not engineers. Blame fat thumbs and a tiny smartphone. Sorry about that

I think that I agree with you although passenger hauling is currently my way to make a living. A subtility would be to keep the payment for missions that require luxury cabins, as the investment in an Orca or Beluga is not cheap. The Dolphin is cheap but limited in terms of luxury cabins, so the payment would also be related to the number of passengers.

In general I would like more subtle balancing on missions characteristics (payment, rep/influence, rewards, BGS consequences, time limit...) so a CMDR would have to think twice before accepting a mission or fitting a ship. It would be nice if we had to really work the ship configuration for a dedicated 'sub-career' such as mass transportation or luxury long-range sightseeing... Today it's more like : just grab your AspX, fit a class 5 first class cabin and do whatever you want from bulk refugees transportation to long-rang exploration :)

I have a dolphin to make money on passenger runs, but for fun I poke around planet surfaces.

It would be nice to see more missions that involve planet surfaces (I see very few of them). It would also be nice if they paid more that 30-50 K in credits. Hard to compete with a simple 1mil credit passenger run.

I imagine they must have a reason for structuring it this way, but I cannot think of why that would be.

By "missions that involve planet surfaces" you mean those missions where it is required to scan a data point in a small base ? If yes, payouts can be huge if you get allied with minors factions issuing these... In fact it is often seen as a form of exploit :D

I think the exploit there is that you can stack those and they all get checked off as complete when you do just one of them. Passengers don't seem to care what beacon you take them to either.

I just mean that there is a lot of fun stuff going on that gets ignored because it doesn't pay anything even if you are allied. A couple things pay way too much while most of it is so low it leaves a bitter taste that would otherwise be sweet fun.

"Credits" is just a means to an end. Once you have amassed heaps, you'll give up worrying about how many credits any given mission is worth (maybe). Personally, I play the BGS in support of my chosen minor faction. The only currency I look at when taking missions is "faction influence".
