I just ordered the Vive a few days ago. Should arrive tomorrow!
Indeed, great deal on Rift at basically half price of Vive, though my plan is to pick up the Vive Wireless adapter once that release later this year. Should make it really nice with no wires! But indeed, that Rift sale right now with controllers is hard to beat!

With the GBP at its current low, this is a no-brainer for anyone who has a pc that can support. I just paid 650 (euro) for mine 2 weeks ago. Whatever I tell you, whatever you expect, the (virtual) reality is better.

If I was planning to build an uber VR computer say in 12 months, do you think this'd be a worthwhile investment, or do you think it will come down to this price again?

Get it. Totally worth it. I can't tell you how good Elite is in VR when are coordinating in multi crew using discord and kicking some butt.

Likely. It's called the early adopter fee for a reason.

£400 for a rift AND hand controls - As a VIVE user I cannot tell you how awesome VR is in Elite.

Just make sure you have a beefy GPU and fast CPU first.

Immersion is amazing and there's some good Steam titles like Vanishing Realms, Sirento VR and Arizona Sunshine that are worth playing.

But mainly buy it for Elite Dangerous :D

Nice one mate, was looking for a second CV1 for my UK setup. What a Bargain :)

Is anyone running a rift on a really old processor? My main rig is pretty old, but it meets the bare minimum graphics card requirement of GTX 960. The only issue for me is that my 7 year old Core i7-860 seems to benchmark quite a bit lower than the bare minimum i3 required by Oculus. Is anyone running a rift below the bare minimum specs?

$399 here in the USofA...

With a nice monitor you can WATCH your game in all its glory. With a RIFT/VIVE you don't watch the game on your monitor - you are ***IN*** the game!

I simply would not be spending so much time in ED if it wasn't for the RIFT. IMHO - ED is simply the very best game to enjoy the VR experience - sitting comfy in a chair while video gaming as God intended!

I have been on the fence about picking up a VR headset but this might be enough reason to give it a try. I currently run 3 monitors with Track IR but for $400 I might have to give it a go.

What is the Steam VR test app telling you? Remember that that is the very minimum for VR apps, and Elite needs way more.

So is a newer higher spec version about to be released? Usually the reason for sudden price drops is to dump old stock.

You don't get everyone to shell out £400 on VR, when you are just about to ask them for £700 for the new and improved version.

Probably a slump in sales. They are only lowering the price for six weeks.

And I haven't heard any progress towards 2nd gen HMD from either major parties.

You do if as the vendor you're trying be discreet about a new model on the horizon, its a common marketing tactic.

Went to get it from Amazon Canada.
Sold out.

Have to buy from the States, now! Means a walk over the border, and pay taxes to Canada Customs!
Oh well!
