Stuck at Pro Treia AC-D d12-1

Yep.

Any idea how long it should take to get some vanadium & germanium by mining rings? I just spent half an hour testing and got very few mats of any sort and nothing useful. I figure that it woill be a lot easier for Faxe to scoop mats from mining but if it's going to take hours then it might be quicker for him to learn how to scoop from a planet surface! (any tips Frawd?, not sure if anyone else has done it!)

I had a go just before Frawd had a go (just to see how feasible it was as I had shields and Frawd didn't) - it's easy if you have shields but it does depend on the ship and the terrain. Nice flat planet low g surfaces are the easiest (as you would expect). The scoop is a long way back on some ships and you have to keep your landing gear raised but it's similar to scooping in space - apart from the horrible scraping noises. (edit: all pips to shields!!!)

Allitnil, I don't think it's going to be fast. I reckon it would be much easier on the planet surface. If he has shields it will be fine with all pips to shields.

Yah alot easier on the surface...mining rings is a last resort. I got REAL lucky getting Macedonica's germanium...and it took 30 mins to pop. I think it's a spawning thing, I've tried several times since and haven't gotten higher grade mats to show any sooner, but once they DO spawn they come quite a bit quicker, but still don't beat surface scooping.

Hello, I'll have to leave for today.
I'll return on thursday evening.

Thanks for your support.

Faxe

I could make it over there by Thursday evening; I was going to wrap up my survey of the Wayfarer's Graveyard pretty soon anyways.

Allitnil -- Were you going to still take this one?

I still remember the video where you were picking the mats with your shieldless sidey, on you way to Beagle with a Rock Rat prospecting on the ground. :D

Dang, now where is that video?? Will have a search.

Ok...since it will take me ages to find the vid:

1) Cargo scoop active (I didn't have shields but if Faxe does then definitely have them on first)

2) Make sure Faxe is closer than 500m when you kill the rock (otherwise the mats may not appear to him)...the closer the better really.

3) Faxe...approach mat slowly and on as flat a trajectory as possible.

4) When mat has been collected...thrust straight up!! That way you avoid dragging your tail in the dirt (admittedly , if you have shields no damage should occur either way).

It is pretty simple but I found it nerve-racking due to not having shields.

Good luck

Just want to say that this is one of the things that makes me proud to be a part of the exploration community in ED.
Someone's in trouble and you guys are banding together to help him out. Good work all. :)
Hope you get to safety soon, Faxe!

Still in need of help? I can be of assistance the next few hours...

[edit]: Ah, missed the part with "back on Thursday". I think I will come too.
Time to brush off the dust from "Goldie".

I am presently on station at Pro Treia AC-D d12-1. I can verify there is vanadium present at the inner ring (rocky) of the second planet, and it dropped fairly quickly (10-12 minutes)

I didn't find germanium or vanadium in the outer ring after 2 hours of blasting (nor any higher jumponium mats)

Off to the next set of rings...

I'm shocked (shocked!) to see that Chiggy is already over there testing out rings ;)

Glad to see Faxe is in good hands.

So I too dropped by today (must have missed Chiggy by minutes). I tried all asteroid belts to no avail, however when mining in the rocky ring (same as Chiggy) I got some Niobium drops out of them. No other rings yielded any result for me (spent about 3 hours jumping in and out/relogging and so on).

It seems very rare to get them out by mining, so if he is able to scoop up from the planets, that would absolutely be the most effiecient.
Upon scanning the entire system it has everything except the elusive polonium - so at least it is a decent system to be stranded in :)

I'll go and show some passengers around the galaxy today and tomorrow, but I'll be there on thursday. Sent a bunch of you friend requests as well.
From my time rock-ratting with the DW we had great success in going in "force" as the spawning of the outcrops increased dramatically making it more efficient.

Hope to see you there.

Yes, good point Anuranium...the more Cmdrs killing rocks the quicker the job will be to find the elusive jump mats for Faxe (forgot about that one).
