Should The Galaxy be orange everywhere?

The galaxy in Elite Dangerous is orange , in first encounters it was blue and in most games/movies is not even present at all.

Now , I am not saying it should not be orange , but should it be like that all over?
When you look at the map in game you can see areas that are blue , red , white , gold and orange. (gold/orange being mostly the same)

So I was wondering , would it be a good thing is the local dust in areas that are on the map showed to be one colour actualy reflect that in game?

Imagine flying out to the end of a arm and finding the local fog to be dark blue , or you go into one of the smaller red areas and find that you are in a red tinted fog zone.

I think it could work , but it depends... but would it be logical?

Ps I miss the old galaxy render from the early beta , it looked so good (if a bit clunky)

I also do really hope that it will be changed in a future update.
Is it a QoL-thing? I do not know and I would not think so.

But yes, when warping into a nebula of any color I also do not feel that much of a difference except of the star-classes existent.

Here be a similar thread on the subject from a couple months ago.

My hypothesis is this: the in-game visible galactic bulge is generated by adding together the combined luminosities of all the procedurally-generated stars in those regions. And individual stars all look "yellower" in-game than they would in real-life. So the net result is a "yellowification" of the galaxy as a whole.

My theory is that the "yellowification" of the Elite galaxy is due to light reflecting off all of those beige planets out there! See my avatar to the left? It's close to the Elite reality, ain't it? ;)

Maybe if Frontier fixed the beigification then the color of the galaxy might be fixed along with it as well?

It used to look like this , I think it looked better back then but its still yellow/orange

It should be shifted more towards the blue end of the spectrum and there should be options to make it higher resolution. Space engine does it far better.

Its worth remembering that the images we're used to seeing of space have usually been "colour enhanced" to make features more visible, a great deal of the stuff we see in space photography was originally captured at wavelengths that are invisible to us.

Beyond that, I figured its probably some combination of -
* Tinted cockpit glass to prevent my pilot going blind everytime he looks at a star
* Redshift
* Interplanetary dust
* Rust (Stars tend to stop the fusion process at iron, and everything heavier sublimes into it)
* Clever optics designed to preserve "night vision" where a brighter colour could make it harder for a pilot to spot things

With a liberal sprinkling of "magic"

Also worth a mention - space used to be orange

Yoo have to fly away from the star, it is blinding you to the colours of the nebula you are in, the further from the star you are the more vibrant the colours of the nebula.

For me part of the draw of Elite is the trying to be visually accurate. Having saturated or false colors takes away from the game. There is already a game with that out there.

Thats why I was asking because I wanted to know how ''realistic'' it would be if the areas shown in different colours on the map would be reflected in the local dust or not.

I prefere the beta render of the galaxy , felt more realistic to me , but I never went to deep space.

I think that more work is needed on the galaxy and nebula , mostly just to make them higher res some of the nebula can be a bit ugly even with heavy tweaks to the game

The milky way as seen from space:

Ingame Version seems quite accurate to me.
From sol I agree.
When you look at the galaxy map ingame , if you zoom way out you will see small areas that are patched with red spots , regions that are purple and the edges are blusish/purple.
What I am wondering is , realisticly would those areas that are not the normal orange not have different colour ''fog''? or are the colour differences due to something else?

I'm not sure the orange is Fdevs attempt to be visually accurate, when everyone else uses colour filters as a shortcut for tone. The Matrix is green, Deus Ex 3 is urine, Xcom is blue. There's a chart for them online somewhere, green is supposed to be alternate reality, I can't remember the others but I use SweetFX to get rid of them as soon as I find them. Elite is washed in the same dirty wee that Michael Bay's Tranformers movies are.

I liked Deus Ex's gold tone it was ment to represent a golden age for transhumanism.

The thing with Elite however is that the orange to me often feels like its not fully intentional , as if they have bigger plans for the milkyway but then went on to do something else instead.

I don't have a problem with the colors. But the galaxy doesn't look orange on my color balanced system. More golden overall with purple and blue highlights. Basically like that real image that was posted earlier in this thread.

Its been based on chemical colours seen on Earth (Im pretty sure, saw a Dev reply somewhere)

unfortunately most things that don't have plant life on earth are a bit beige, not saying more colour wouldn't hurt but I see what they did
