Engineers Have you opened all of the (current) engineers?

With the obvious Thargoid tech RNGeneering soon to be upon us with 2.4 and not knowing which engineer(s) will be offering this tech, or who will offer access to new engineers, I thought I'd spend a day or two opening up the few remaining engineers so that I'm good to go when this comes in Q3. Although I think it will be either federal aligned engineers, and more specifically either Ram or Palin that will be the engineers that will be involved in the Thargoid tech race.

How many others out there have done the same in preparation for this coming arms race?

Opened 9 I think then got bored of the whole rng and grind.

If the thargoids need more engineer unlocks I'll probably pack this game in

Nope, not all of them. 1st Acc is out in Colonia and has about half of them unlocked or gotten an invitation (got Palin on my way out though) and my 2nd Acc has only unlocked Felicity, Elvira and the Dweller so far, with Liz, Todd, Lei, Zacariah + Marco and Juri "pre"-unlocked. Trying to get the Sirius permit right now but always get distracted by CGs...;)

Edit - P.S.: but I'm not in a hurry there, they will unlock when they unlock... ;)

sitting at 19/20 engineers, i'm poitive there will be new engineers for the thargoid tech ;-)

Not too sure about that one - Frontier may simply add modifications to existing Engineers, as there'd likely be backlash regarding placing weapons / armour / shields / etc. suitable for Thargoid engagements behind a requirement to unlock additional Engineer(s)....

You hope would they would introduce new gameplay for acquiring the new weapons etc but boring old Rngineers will be the medium they use no doubt.
Total lack of imagination when it comes to interesting gameplay this dev lot.
Overall Elite 4 has been very dissapointing for me.

well, wasn't the orginal engineers number 30 or so?

Yes I've opened all and have them all on grade 5, too ^^

Compared to a goal like "I need grade 5 dirty drives urgently" I found this approach less grindy as it offers a vast variety of different tasks (mining, exploring, reputation farming for permits, mission rewards for certain commodities,...).

That hasn't stopped fdev before... I think the mindset is if you want to play the game content, then you have to put the time in to the game.

No, I opened one engineer and I'm not going to do anything further with this excuse of game content.

How do you think it should be done then? :S

Indeed - Engineers are unlocked by playing the game, possibly experiencing content previously ignored....

Done them all some time back. As already mentioned, encouraged me to do things I wouldn't normally do, and thoroughly enjoyed some of that.

I had them 80% done before the changes to the blueprints.
Bring ten more! My body is ready.

It's actually 5 engineers or so. I just happened to keep that last one in mind because I was like: "Why am I doing this?"

How it should be done? Get rid of the layered RNG and make the moddable stuff mostly cosmetic. That's not going to happen though.

I could cheat myself rolls and mats, but to what end? I'd end up with equipment that trivialises the whole gameplay. The very concept of engineers is useless. A pointless time-sink for game-breaking stuff. No thanks.

just to illustrate the fair point here: i was wake scanning in a 800 m/s racing imperial eagle some days ago with a hefty bounty on my head. npc bounty drops into the distribution center; i have no weapons so i thought: I'll keep scanning till he hits me, than i jump out. turns out he wasn't able to even get into range the whole 50 minutes of wake scanning... but a NPC bounty hunter being able to do so and hit me, would on the other hand be a death sentence for me flying around in my DBE exploring the bubble. which is why it won't happen probably.

other story: i watched my AI crewmate taking down several npc pirates far above its rank in the same ship (gunship) - down to a player modded ship.

i share the impression that engineering ships is too powerfull on high end - but i don't see it changed.

that said, i personally enjoyed the process of engineering my fleet.

You can find 29 engineers on eddb.io, search for factions, government = engineer.

I considered getting allied with the unreleased engineers systems in case it helped but ran out of motivation, but at least you can see where some are coming.

Oh and I have unlocked all current engineers to grade 3 or above in in preparation for the next engineers. I have to say I didn't find it that much of a grind as I had already been to sagA* and back, and done a load of combat so most bits were covered. The mining was a bit of a drag but at least it generated a bunch of materials to then spend on upgrades.

I think I have two unlocked, the 2 fsd queens.
Invites from others that I can't be bothered with.
