I have a question about Palin and his silly demand you go 5k light years from your starting point.

When I travel 5k out, can I just shorten the journey home by blowing myself up? I don't give a damn about data.

Thanks guys. Good to know I can cut the work down by half. Cheap Hauler it is!

Do you give a damn about money? If so, check out PW2010 94. It's just over 5000ly and it's in a cluster with several dozen neutron stars. You could quickly scan a few of them and you'd have a lot of data, rank, reputation, and money when you get back.

I value time over money, in this case. I got disenchanted by exploring long ago.

The struggle to get to the first 5,000. I remember those days as if it...
..No wait, I honestly can't remember those days any more. ;)

Just go out in a ship built for jump range a fast scooping and you'll be done with it before you know it.

Why not kit out an Asp for max jump range. You'll get there and back quicker than just there in the Hauler. Just honk in each system you pass through then you can sell the data and you can sell the Asp if you no longer want it. Faster way to unlock Palin and you'll make a bucket of cash.

Remember to wait until you have the invitation in your messages before blowing yourself up! Just going 5000 LY may not be enough. You must go 5000 LY from you point of in-game origin. If that was "West" of your current position and you travel West 5000 LY from your current position you will need to go just a bit farther to get the invite. THEN you can blow yourself up. Don't know why you would, though. If you do not care about data, do you care about money? The trip back is just a couple of hours and the exploration data is worth several tens of millions. o7

First I'd need the money for an Asp. Now I have a Cobra with the Base modules I want, and a few re-buys, I'm keen to RP, not grind for credits. Materials grind yes, but credits are a secondary concern to me.

Whether you go one way or return, use a 50 LY Asp or DBX.
You can jump nearly 4000 LYs an hour.

The Dolphin is pretty cheap and has a decent range. You could even combine a passenger mission with your quest. Get to see a nice sight.

But if you really don't like all that, do whatever you please of course. :)

I appreciate what you guys are trying to say, that I should fly back the proper way.

However, the problem is, is that in my opinion, emphasis being that is my personal opinion, is that when you leave the main, Maia or Colonia bubbles, there's absolutely jack-squat to do. I find the uninhabited space mind-numbingly boring, to the point it physically hurts. Seriously. My arms tensed up the entire time I was flying the cheap Hauler to unlock the FSD ladies. I need to feel like I'm doing something, and exploration is the polar opposite for me.

:/

What could possibly have put you off? Don't you like beige?

No, colour doesn't bother me at all. But be realistic. What do you do when you hit a new unexplored system?

You point your ship at planet and wait for a text field to change. You land on a planet. Cool. What do you do on the planet? Nothing.

I need objective and exploration doesn't offer me that.

If you do the math on that, I doubt it'll end up being true. You're saying an Asp has double the jump range of a Hauler? It's more, but I don't think it's that much more.
