Next Ship?

The Asp is good at everything. The Vulture is pretty much good for combat and nothing else. You can do combat in an Asp, it's not ideal, but if you can handle combat in a Cobra, you can probably handle combat in an Asp fine.

Funny thing there...

I had a bit of time away from ED and, when I came back, I was a bit wary of combat in my AspX cos I was under the impression it was a bit fragile and it's weapons (a couple of #2 MCs and four #1 beams) were a bit weedy.

I'm not sure what's going on but it's nothing like I remember it.
First I had a bit of fun with NPCs at a compromised nav-beacon and I thought "Oooh, this isn't as bad as I remember it"
Then i got attacked by an NPC FGS and a Vulture and it dealt with them pretty easily.
Then I took it to the last CG and upset somebody in an FGS and somebody in a Clipper.
And then somebody in an Anaconda had a pop at me at an engineer's base and i was quite happily taking care of business when they realised they had an urgent appointment elsewhere.

I seem to recall that the basic ship was a bit fragile, sluggish and a bit weedy but once you've done some upgrades, and got those upgrades engineered, it can be a tough SOB.

The AspX is "ok" in combat, especially if you get military armor, some decent weapons, an A-rated shield, and a few shield boosters, as long as you aren't fighting against over-engineered ships in Open. I still prefer the Vulture (over an Asp) for combat. For everything else, the Asp is better.

AspX hands down. You can easily make millions using it for passenger runs, trading, exploration, and some bounty hunting.
I had a Vulture.... Sold it not long after acquiring it. It's really limited in what it can do.

The next multi-purpose ship is the ASP Explorer. It's a very capable ship that you will keep...

...It's ugly
