My little concept of zoom for the game. I think many will know where I got it.

At the moment, thanks to engineers, we have very long-range weapons and powerful sensors.
Very often battles take place over a distance of more than three kilometers.
In such cases, the battle does not look beautiful, but turns into a real pixel-hunting.

Our ships have smart glass. Why does not it have a zoom function?
Previously, we did not need this. All battles took place at very close distances.
The game encouraged to keep closer to the enemy. But these times have passed.

I think this should look something like this: first two or three levels of approximation should look like an "increase from the eyes" аnd then a special window of the interface with the enlarged image on our smart glass. The last stage I tried to depict in the picture at the beginning of the topic.

I know English very poorly, so I apologize in advance for my manner of writing.

Would you like to see the zoom function in the game? Or maybe you know good examples of its implementation?

I would like to see this and also other functions, the UI is very poor at my view, like run windows 95 theme nowadays.

How did you get a poll to work? I thought they were disabled because FDev don't like us using them? Voted other.

I don't mind a telescope or similar but one of the balancing factors of a zoom function should be that it restricts your peripheral vision.

Very simplistically, I think if the Zoom from the Camera Suite were to be added/selectable in the cockpit it would be perfect! Would need to support headtracking etc as well.

Sorry if it wasn't supposed to be a multiple choice poll, but I voted 'yes' as well as 'another opinion'. Since I like the idea of ships being able to provide magnification, but I'd like it to come as part of a general fleshing out of the sensor and targeting mechanics.

There's no much potential for deeper mechanics in this area, especially if we gradually move towards combat occurring at longer range. Sensor modes tuned to different parts of the electromagnetic spectrum, which are useful in different situations against different types of opponents. Active and passive sensors so that you can choose between lighting yourself up to see more, or staying passive and seeing less. Target designation and shared sensor data which rewards the use of scout ships alongside heavier warships. There could be a whole game embedded in just having the correct tactics and equipment to find and track other ships.

I believe mods can still make polls.

This could be cool and amazing in VR if well implemented. ( meaning not too OP, ED is not a sniper game ). The same interface could be use for a planetarium UI mask were the stars / planets / nebula would be named. Think the galaxy map.

A zoom function could be useful for exploration on planets to see and find stuff in the distance.

A zoom feature could encourage more long-distance combat sniping though. It could also add variety to combat tactics.

If they add this they should add more HUD customization options (color, disable-enable and move elements).

Polls are back!

Yay for polls!

I think polls are only for moderators and admins.

I voted "another opinion". Reason being, is that while zoom in itself is a great idea, I don't actually think there is much reason in-game to have a zoom capability at the moment. If good reasons for needing it were in the game, then yes.

Zoom in on a ship to see the name? You can see it already when you select it.
Zoom to a planetary base? Why - there's nothing to see.
Zoom to a space station? as above
Combat sniping? You can already select target modules
Zoom in on a star? My eyes...my eyes [wacky]

Personally I'm not interested in a 'zoom' feature but what I am concerned about is the ability for a moderator to post a poll on an idea they had while the rest of us have to try and get people to actually type a response to increase the amount of actual opinions that get passed back to the devs.

It seems we now have one rule for the moderators and another for the rest of us. I know I normally get along great with the mods and have a laugh etc. But this I feel is a slap in the face to anyone who has tried to get an opinion on an idea in the last several months.

Really not impressed.

A poll with today's date? What is this sorcery?

...unless... the manufacturer behind telepresence also exists in real life! That's the only logical explanation.
