Free The Cobra MKIV

Those without the Cobra Mk IV are not missing much at all. The second the C Mk IV was made generally available, the threads to 'fix' it would start. In light of both of these points; FD can do what they like.
Almost from the first minute it was released, there has been a conspiracy theory that the reason FD made it so slow was to avoid accusations of pay to win. Perhaps if it ever lost it's exclusivity FD might look at tweaking it more in line with expectations.

I was just a little late in buying Elite and Horizons and the Commander's Pack to get the Cobra IV, and it wouldn't bother me half as much if it weren't listed on the website shipyard, as if it were something you could buy.
Of course, the Dolphin and Beluga are also missing from the website, but at least those are available.

Add to that that NPC's in Cobra IV's are something fairly common, and I'm going to side with "Yeah, free the Cobra IV already".

Perhaps it would be in keeping to make it available from Jameson Orbital only.

Sorry mate, I have to disagree.

You haven't bought the special offer so it's only natural you side with "Yeah, free the Cobra IV already". For those who gave our money in an instant when they asked there were no "...and maybe it will be available later" options. It was "we need your money right now, and for that you'll get this exclusive item that is available only now". A simple trade deal involving real money.

And it won't be in keeping to make it available from Jameson only. That was not in the deal I paid FD for.

The MKIV in case you are unaware is a restricted purchase to those who have been playing the game since at the very least before me (Really early doors players) which means that most of us and ALL of the newly introduced dont have access to the ship.

For your information, the C 4 was available through the first quarter of 2016, so not as restricted as you make it sound.

As for me, as a Horizons owner, I could care less if it were released. It is not exactly pay to win, but as an incentive for buying Horizons, it was... meh.

Tbh mate I don't think you have anything to worry about. I'd be very surprised if FD changed their minds, everyone here is just expressing an opinion on the subject. Personally I'd be happy if the MKIV was opened up to everyone, same deal with the MKIII wireframe paintjobs.

Not worried mate, only wishing FD would stick to their part of the deal. Maybe I'm too much business oriented, comes with the age, but when someone offers me a deal that include me giving away my rl money for something, I do care if the deal was true to the end.

As for the cobra iv. Meh. Most of those who want it would never use it and if they did, would be sorely disappointed.

That's probably quite true, I'd most likely just park it on a pretty planet and take a few beauty shots before putting it away in some secluded hangar forever. For any serious game related stuff there are always ships that do anything and everything better than the Mk IV.

The only difference is that Fdev would be $10 richer (or however much they'd charge for opening it to the general public) + some cool paint jobs and nameplates, and I'd have a rather useless but pretty ship that I never use.... :D Oh and there'd be some very loud, butthurt forum members who dont like to share, shrieking and throwing hissy fits about how their toys are no longer exclusive. On second thoughts keep the MK IV, its not worth dealing with the inevitable tsunami of self righteous temper tantrums.

Irony is delicious.

Exclusive is exclusive. You can't make people pay for it then move the goal post later
Had it been advertised as a timed exclusive then fair enough

Never free it. It's exclusive. Maybe another exclusive ship will be released in the future for players.

Releasing it undermines the ability for fdev to sell items with incentive.

I couldn't have one because I was on Mac at the time and we couldn't and still can't have horizons. In order to support frontier further I actually bought a windows PC and an expensive graphics card before buying horizons, by then it was too late for the cobra mk iv but I have brought loads of ship skins and vanity items from the frontier store since.

How about if FD poll the people who currently have access to the mk iv to see if they'd be willing to make it non exclusive.?

I think that would be the fair thing to do.

It's a bit beyond the scope of the game right now, but it would be nice to have the ability to have varients in the game - turn your Dropship into a Gunship, Type 6 to Keelback, Python varients, Cobra etc etc.
It would need a lot more than the current cosmetic ship kits - but with a bit of tweaking of engineers and ship parts it might one day be do-able - I'm sure it's something Fdev will have thought about - I've seen a lot of demand for a more "slider" rather than RNG based system for engineers - I see something like this as the basis of a system that would allow "varients".

Its a good idea but I dont think it would work, even if those who are unwilling are in the extreme minority, the backlash on the forums would be truly awe-inspiring. FDev would be putting out fires until the end of time.

How many more pages of "I want it", "You can't have it" do we really need in this thread?

As explained in post #66, FD sold it as an exclusive part of a the early access Horizons package - and that's that.

TLDR: Reselling it or giving it away now is not an option because of consumer protection laws.
Something sold as exclusive, has to stay exclusive.

Blame the marketing department. Nothing else to discuss.

As I recall, the preorder was $20.00 more than the post order. It was sold at full game price before it was separated into a season pass. Now, it's something like $40.00 cheaper. So if you're wanting the ship that bad, I'd say $20.00 would be a fair price.

But ships for money is a no-no. I'd prefer that they just released the (as was accurately described earlier) flying turd. Maybe give those of us who paid full price a $20.00 store credit or something to compensate.
