It's never going to happen. Remember the Wireframe Cobra? FD tried to put that back into circulation and they got backlash, that's why it's not in the store anymore. They tried to use the "limited only means limited for now" argument, except that wasn't what they put on their store page or what the sale implied. They're not going to try that again.
Have to say that's probably the defining example of why they should just forget the idea of ever doing exclusives again anyway.
Firstly just to clarify something, if you get to buy something on a timed exclusive deal (and I'm saying this as someone who has exclusive stuff
and who missed exclusive stuff) it doesn't mean you're special, or a more dedicated fan and that goes double in the case of Elite which was a franchise that hadn't seen a live game released for almost 20 years. There will be countless thousands of players who played Elite, Frontier and FFE more than any three of us put together who simply had no idea this new game was even in the offing and we're not 'better' than those players, we're lucky that we got to know about it and that's all we are. There are stil players now who post on the forums saying they're new to the game and played the originals for endless hours but just didn't know this had been released. Let's not start assuming airs and graces that we don't deserve.
Now, as far as the wireframe Cobra paint is concerned, I missed that. Would I buy it if it went back in the shop? Yeah probably. What have FDev achieved by making it exclusive? They've deprived themselves of what was it, a tenner? Plus all the other tenners from people who would have bought it since it became unavailable. Great move that, makes such good commercial sense to have players who are willing to spend a tenner on a cosmetic item for a computer game and to have to sit there going
'no, really we don't want your stinking money, keep it'.
I'm not salty about not getting it, I just think the fact FDev have to turn down money because they decided to sell it as an exclusive deal and then a bunch of people don't want another bunch of people to have something that they already have and always will have anyway is somewhat crazy. I mean, I wonder how many of the players who bought it
only bought it because it was exclusive and not just because they wanted it? I just don't get the mentality at all - it's a paint for a ship in a computer game not a Faberge egg.
That's without even getting into the paints that appear to have been limited time offers but which weren't actually stated to be limited time offers anywhere. I still remember the time I went to the shop to buy the gold FDL paint because I'd finally bought one only to be sat there scrolling through the pages going
'so yeah, where is the gold FDL paint anyway?' Ditto the gold Anaconda paint. I'd seen those in the shop every time I visited since I started playing, didn't see a damn thing saying they were going to be withdrawn from sale. Oh look, more money that isn't going in the till.
Then you had the Black Friday paints which is the only one that
did irritate me somewhat. The complete set was given away free to players who pre-ordered Horizons. I
did in fact pre-order Horizons, I just didn't pre-order it
early enough lol, like it's not enough for me to shell out £40 for a game expansion before even the first of its four parts is released (without even getting into the fact we've only had the third one up to now, seven months after we expected the final one) but I also have to do it before a day which is still an irrelevance to a lot of people in the UK because it's an American thing (the day being chosen with reference to Thanksgiving) and which is only being foisted on us in an attempt to get us to spend money in the run-up to Christmas. The only chord it strikes with me is the day that I get to watch chavs fighting over Bush tellys in Asda on the news. Still FDev were quick to stick those in the shop last year for what was it, £3 each? Many lolz were had that day.
The whole deal with exclusives and computer games is bunk, it's just one more thing along with pre-order bonuses in general that causes more problems than it's worth. Just create the content and let all the players buy it if they want it without trying to turn it into a collectible. That way you make more money
and have less butthurt to deal with.
Incidentally I'm hoping some of the specials come back (once I've got the money for some of the ships I'd love to see them in Chrome, or similarly the golden anaconda seems to have vanished:-()
Yeah, see above. No idea at all what that was about.
