Lifetime pass payback time

do any of you other paid lifetime pass holders think that you'll get your monies worth from it in the end, or do you feel a little conned by the way things appear to be moving?

I've spent 20 minutes writing a post about how I am on the fence too... only to realize that I am not actually on the fence.

Yeah... I feel a little conned. That's a nice way of putting it. But not because of future content which I will not get to see, but because of current content which I cannot stand playing.

RNGineers and smellypresence ruined the game for me, or at least its multiplayer aspect (which one of the major reasons I bought it in the first place), they ruined it to the point I feel no desire to play anymore. I'd rather play solitaire than see another spinny wheel or hologram appear in my ship.

And seeing as how these are 'major expansions' and will not get removed from the game or reworked in any way, and seeing how I have a huge backlog of other games which I would like to try out, the prospects of playing Elite ever again get slimmer each month, and my feeling of having been 'conned' grows proportionally.

........ but think about all the pleasure you get from coming on the forum and .......

;)

{sorry to tease but I am in a strange mood}

I'd be miffed if future content had to come at cost to us with LEPs, but mostly because I'd see that as being somewhat unfair, rather than because of how much I'd got/not got.

I'm actually holding off buying any extra content in the store until we see pricing for the next paid expansions.
LTP on my account and if I "have" to pay for any expansion I'll certainly not be visiting the store anytime soon.

When we find the pass holds up - I'll get me some ship kits and paint jobbies [big grin]

OK now I hope I will be forgiven if my memory is faulty here but...

[...]

Since I was therefore in the last tranche of people who bought an LEP I would therefore say that none of us should be bothered how F D market their future releases, we bought knowing that "all future expansions will be included" - not "all future seasons".
It's more than likely my memory that's playing up; the number of times I've had to check forum archives and Wikis only to discover things happened in an order different than I remember is worrying. For a while I was convinced that CQC was a Horizons thing, but only remembered it came with 1.4 when I Googled it.

The whole "season pass" nomenclature only really happened because Steam didn't like FD selling a product that contained another product, or something along those lines. Memory blurs again. I maintain that many people will have interpreted that as "we're getting stuff every 12 months", and that group may have included some LEP owners, but you're probably right that it wasn't an actual selling point given that the LEPs were already sold.

I was basically trying to give CMDRhpid some kudos for the one aspect of his argument that seemed broadly true (LEP owners really have had only $50ish of 'value' so far) compared with the agenda-ridden tinfoil tosh he was spewing in the rest of it. But since he appears to have been a sock puppet anyway, I guess it was largely a waste of time.

Lifetime passes are a gamble. It's a bit early to talk about sunsetting the game though. I for one do expect significant development going further, still.
Yes to the last two points. With Frontier, I don't consider my multiple life time passes anything but a solid investment. Everything going forward costs me 0.

No, you already paid for it. Its like when you pre purchase a game, the game is not free when it releases.

When the servers finally shut down forever, if technology allows it at the time, I'd like to be able to pay again for an offline version of the game, solo forever if you like, just NPCs. I am aware that would be impossible right now, but in the future perhaps (lifetime passers should get it free I suppose). :)

Edit: Or maybe by then, I'll be rich enough to buy the servers and required hosting to keep them going for the dedicated few as cheaply as feasible if not free. :)

Just to check, has anybody from FDev ever suggested anywhere that LEP holders will get anything other than full access to every single update ever released for the game, regardless of the delivery/retail model that will be used? I know they hadn't last month which is the last time I looked at this utterly bizarre thread, just wondered if something had changed since it's been bumped.

Why'd you want to go and intermingle common sense into such a lovely tinfoil thread..

They haven't, you are right. However they have been delaying any announcement for a long time, and still continue to give no indication of for example whether 'improvements to core gameplay' will be part of the original game (as seems logical) or additional content beyond what a Horizons only customer is entitled to.

Once again, I just want to know, nearly two years after Horizons was announced, what is happening longer term than just a vague 'post 2.4'. For my £120 LEP to represent good value I'm looking at 3-4 premium (£40 worth) content packages. I'd like at least a rough plan like:

3.0 Atmospheric Landings
4.0 Water Worlds & animal life
5.0 Spacelegs
6.0 Earth-likes

I just want to know what's going on.

They did promise that it would be made available when the servers eventually go down

Totally reasonable request. This won't be the first game I've played where the developers don't want to say anything about any future content for fear of the usual 'but you promised X by Y' when plans inevitably change but it's not as if you're planning whether to buy, you already have.
