I'm not even sure what "sandbox" means in this context.
ED is an "Open World" product, some people use the terms "Open World" and "Sandbox" interchangeably and there is a fair rational to do so.

In the context of ED, there is no set path of progression nor personal story to follow so technically it is a true sandbox product.

Fun for who? Last I checked, its not very fun to get turkey stomped for zero reason with zero chance of escape or fighting back.
Assumption...

See, its ironic when you accuse me of making assumptions. I've been speaking in terms of newbies getting ganked by veteran wings. Unengineered, half-outfitted ships dont stand a chance against a wing of engineered ships piloted by veteran CMDRs. The likelihood of a newbie piloting a Cutter is basically zero. Please stop trying to project your imaginings over what I'm actually saying.
I don't support seal clubbing and agree it is griefing. But it is totally normal that you don't stand a chance in a half-outfitted ship against a wing of veteran CMDRs.
And yes there are a lot of newbie CMDRs flying shieldless Anaconda or whatever at the CG in Open and complained for being destroyed in 2sec.

No, thats CQCs core design. Elite proper has far more to it than just pew pew.
First CQC is an another game. Secondly i never said ED was just Pew Pew but shooting others is a multiplayer game core design (no matter if you like it or not) and you can't ignore it.
That means : It's not because you are just a trader who don't want to shoot others that others won't want to shoot you.

False. You are not compelled to shoot down people for the sheer hell of it. Well, unless you're playing CQC.
Your are complelled to be prepared for it because it is a multiplayer game core design.

Without insults? Is that why you labelled all who disagree as "Crymanders"? Come on man, you were quoted in the post you just answered.
Sorry for the pun... i did not intent to hurt your feelies.

No, problems come from inconsiderate conduct towards other gamers. Mindlessly blowing up newbies does nothing but drive them out of Open. Prove me wrong.
Assumption again...

Is that why Mobius is getting bigger and bigger?
It is just a PG representing a minority of players...

Read through the thread looking for stuff of interest and holding my nose at the warm smell of colitas rising up through the air.

Some questions / observations.

What is a "HoBro"?

"Feelies"? Realies? The wordsies make my ickle headsy hurtsy.

Millennials? Forum dads? Pah. My generation is the best (and even then most of them are idiots and I'm a special case). The generations before me are less idiots who ruined everything and the younger generations are entitled idiots who don't realise how easy they have things. This is and has always be true. Can we not just take it as read now?

The game needs challenge, it would make it so much better but I have accepted now that real challenge is never going to happen.

FDEV are going to add in Karma instead of creating real in game consequences, because to do that would make the game harder for the low skill tier entitled players. Of which this game seems to be full of.

The Code guys summed it up pretty well on reddit

https://www.reddit.com/r/Elite_Dangerous/comments/6lvw66/how_the_official_fd_forum_reacts_to_any/

Random players feelings on when and how they should attack you does not a 'challenge' make, because as we've seen now repeated times, these people aren't looking for a challenge, it isn't a challenge to suckerpunch only when they aren't expecting it, or griefing people at a CG with throwaway ships and such, that is not a 'challenge' especially since challenges, when it comes to PvP are not a one way thing, or at least the challenges I enjoy in PvP, I want to FIGHT someone, not just see someone blow up, and that is a major difference when it comes to the word challenge.

2 things.
Representing a large group of players, probably a majority, if you go by playing style. Not all people who prefer the kind of play style in Mobius are in Mobius.
If you dismiss player groups because they're the minority, that doesn't bode well for PvP players.

Mobius regroup players who share the same vision on how to play the game. They just want to set their own rules because they don't like Open rules.
Like you said, it is not based on play style : Not all people who prefer the kind of play style in Mobius are in Mobius.

That is why Mobius players represent a minority and why even with the most punishing C&P system those players will stick to the PG.

Also, regarding how the game is build, of course players involved in PvP activities are a minority but 100% of players playing in multiplayer mode can potentially be involved in PvP activities.

So many assumptions...I wonder...how can ye be so certain?

Did you just assume my RP?

No. It's not a sandbox game.

I hate to disappoint you, but the original Elite was one of the first sandbox game (if not the very first!) whom ever made, and so as it's sequels. ED included. And Also? The very first game where you saved your progress.
Grade E from gaming, and the history of your own game, what you playing with! Dismissed, and you forced to repeat the class.

(big panto crowd) Oh yes it is!

No really m8, it is. An open end gaming world with no endgame and almost total freedom...sandpit ^

I thought a sandbox game provided stuff with which to build and create the environent. The prime example being Minecraft. There's NOTHING like that in ED so I would not call it a sandbox game in any way. However, if people choose to incorrectly use the term 'sandbox' that's their business. ;)

But I am not here to argue (today)! Feeling better after having got that 'it's not a sandbox game' off my chest, I shall retreat, back into my box until duty calls once more.
