Weeeeeeee! That was fun.

So, running more missions for that elusive Corvette I don't really want or need, and i take a few more surface scan missions and a random Deadly Pirate Lord assassination mission.

First stop is the surface scan. I come in a we bit too fast (way to fast), and face plant the orbital cruise zone.
I was only 40~km from the surface, so instead of loitering around waiting for the FSD cooldown and whatnot, I boost towards the surface and then switch my engines off and free fall to the surface.
:D

By the time I was about 10km from the ground, my little old Python was falling at around 1500m/s. Lol
Weeeeeeee!
I switched then back on at 5km, quick tap of the boost and belted along at about 500m altitude still doing well over my ships top speed. Lol

That was rather fun.

I did that mission, then moved on the the assassination mission. I had to kill 1 target. Let's call him Bob McBob because I forgot his name already.
Jumped in to the system, honked, flew to the planet and waited for the USS, while ring surfing. Weeeeeeee! (Again)
The USS spawned, I fly up and drop in.
A load of ships spawn, so I check my contact list to see which one is my target;

Okayyy. So it's twins.
So I target 1 of the Bob's to see what it is.

Deadly Corvette. Mission target. Wooh!

What about the other?
Deadly Corvette. Mission Target.

Huh? Identical twins!

I'm only in my mission running Python, so it's not really designed for heavy engagements like this. But what the hell, you only live, uhhh, an infinite number of times in Elite. :p
An epic battle ensued, I ended up using all my SCBs, which was only 1 really, with 4 uses. Lol
And I completed the mission when I killed the first Corvette. But I hung around to kill the second one for good measure.
The kneelback and two eagles were helping, but not very much. Lol

When I handed in the missions, I was at 100% Lt Commander. So I needed a rank up mission. What other joys can I get in one morning? What could possibly asked of me, which would prove my worth to the mighty Federation? What epic ending could there be for my seemingly endless grind towards Post Commander?

Deliver 11t of Hydrogen, to a station 4ly away.

-_-

Really?

I'm a Post Commander now. And I have the Hors permit. Not that I've ever needed to go there. Lol
98% to go to the Corvette. -_-

That does sound fun, and dangerous! [noob]

260% to get my vette (40% Lt Commander). I seem to be adopting a similar approach to you, a couple of assassination missions, data when available and delivery to keep the cash flow positive for the donation missions. Assassination missions wind me up when I have to go to another system to talk to some oik who sends me back from where I have just come from.....might attack the next one just for the fun of it.

Not to be a buzz kill but you have another rank after post commander to go through.
Dammit! Lol

I'm never gonna get this thing. :p

I did do another 10% this morning though.
Getting bored of the same 3-4 missions so I'm currently theory crafting a Passenger Orca. Got it up to around 38~ly range with out too much faffing with modifcations.
I could use my Anaconda. But I can't be bothered to outfit her for range and passengers. I need a dedicated transport.
And I've never flown the Orca.

Can't afford the Beluga (yet) so I shall be hunting down the Orca next time I'm online.

I know how it is, i recently did the grind by doing data delivery missions. All i can say is just keep at it the end goal is worth it.

Look at all that enthusiasm... [yesnod] Lol, great story, Cosmic! Always fun to read your adventures. +1 [up]

So close, you can almost taste the poverty of buying and outfitting a Corvette.

Having completed this myself none too long ago, let me give you a little advice:

Right out of the box the Corvette does not jump, it more like falls over. I'm pretty sure I could throw a sidewinder farther.
But do all your shopping for it, then store everything except the core internals, and then set a course for Farseer. All that empty space doesn't have mass, so you'll get there in a human lifespan.
Once you've upgraded that drive, then pick up all your other internals and enjoy flying the largest, shortest jumping weapons platform you can fly! :)

Be extremely careful - flying Saud Kruger ships is highly addictive!

I've been an Orca pilot since.. well, since I could afford one.
I've flown everything available, but I keep winding up back in an SK ship.. be it a Dolphin or Beluga or Orca.

Phrases commonly spoken by Corvette owners: "I remember when I thought a billion credits was a lot of money"

Here's a picture of mine... cos I have one. :p

chuck a grade 4 buisiness class cabin on the python. You only want the one drop passenger missions that are worth three ranks of rep. Its the best cargo run boost for this ranking up I have found. I got 37% to go, and it is starting to feel like a chore.

I got my Orca!

It's got DD3 on just 4A thrusters, and it still handles really and goes pretty quick! 420m/s. Not bad!
Only ended up with a +40% FSD range roll though. :(
Ran out of materials. Lol
She can still jump 38ly though.

Stuck a load of cabins in it and ran a few passengers about. Seems fine as is. Doesn't need weapons.

:D

I'm curious if a "racing" orca is a thing....

Class 6 Thrusters + DD5 + lightweight stuff... Hmmmmm lol

Yes, yes we know!
Currently grinding missions (more for the money) to, maybe, get a Cutter.
I used to watch the rank % like a hawk but now find the progress depressing.
Now I just look once in a while so I can pretend to be delighted at my progress.
