A Question for the Mega-Rich, Accomplished Veterans among you...

What keeps you going?

I come into a bit of a malaise with my ED experience of late. For context I've been plugging away since Beta. I'm Triple Elite. I've engineered every ship I give a damn about engineering to the nth degree. I've seen the sites galaxy wide. I suppose I'm goal driven in a game like this, and over time it's become harder and harder to find new things as checkboxes get ticked, and certainly spent the time with more experiential pursuits with months out exploring away from the bubble.

This isn't a gripe or complaint about the game, not at all, I adore this game but I'm digging for reasons to strap on the headset and jump in. The easy answer is to take a break, spent some time and come back when there's a patch, but the heart is still willing and looking for inspiration.

Some ideas I've been bouncing around internally ...
  • Finally get that CQC Elite squared away, match making makes this rather impractical.
  • Adopt BGS faction somewhere quiet on an edge of the bubble somewhere and start pursuing their interests.
  • Have an top tier engineered version of EVERY craft in the game, sounds totally pointless because I have *the* ship I want for each core role in Elite.
  • Head out to the core again hunting for Planetary Nebulae unknown to EDSM (my last trip I cataloged about 50 of 'em...).

I'm open... hungry for suggestions...

1. Join a player faction involved with BGS

2. Collect enough resources to get a fully "God" rolled ship/s

3. Get another account and start from scratch

I've recently started manipulating the BGS and it gives a whole new perspective on the galaxy, with different priorities in outfitting your ships. I highly recommend you try it if you haven't before.

16.7 billion in assets and personally I don't feel done yet. (Edit: never hauled poop! in case people were wondering if I ever took the easy route for $$ making)

1. Friends make this game fun each and every log in....Find players, friend them and have fun :)
2. Got a few more variants of certain ships to work out and engineer yet.
3. Still have to max out one faction
4. Exploration - Love it, go out often and stay out for months on end.
5. Thargoid's are coming......Soon™
6. Get and do some BGS with other players.
7. CQC (Silly addition to Elite) if I can be bothered to work on.

Could think of more reasons, but my Thargoids... Oops I mean kids are ready to eat the chairs, best get dinner sorted!

I'm not mega rich, but I class myself as a veteran. Over 1300 hours, playing constantly since Premium Beta 2. Money is not the goal for me in Elite, so that's why I'm not rich. I have about 800 mln Cr in Total Assets...

What keeps me going though is my player faction, which is a community of 300 people. We have our strategic expansion plans, organise lots of events and get involved in the current game events.

Apart from that I still have plenty of personal goals to achieve, but I am taking Elite slow, not rushing and just enjoy the parts that I know are well made and not placeholders.

This way after 1300 hours I am not burnt out, I have never felt I'm need to grind or was bored with Elite. Still loving it!

I have a list of planets I want to go back to and explore properly. Vary from close proximity to high mountains and deep ravines.
Ships need engineering.
BGS picking a random faction and helping them out.
Still only dangerous in combat rank.
Maxxed out in Empire, working on the Feds ( there is an empty vette shaped area that needs filling)
Random acts of madness such as attacking planetary bases.
The Tharoid thang
Visiting areas of the bubble I have not been to.
Learning new skills (FA off, silent running)

I have about 8 billion and all the ships, thanks to the many allowed exploits in the game.

Still haven't reached Elite in any of the three areas and doubt I will.

I got to maxed out Python and Clipper before discovering the FD Approved unexpected game features, so I have done everything in the game that there is to do and to an expert degree.
I have all the engineers unlocked as well.

So there is nothing left for me to do about hope that ED actually adds in some content to keep PVP players interested.

So now I log in now and again, kill other commanders for my very own and entirely legit RP reasons.

The rest of the time I play other games and the want to player ED becomes less and less.

Does that help with your question?

What keeps you going?

Nothing, I haven't played in months.

Last time I played was to try the character creator out, and was disappointed because you can't have cool hair styles or sexy bodies or nice faces.

So without anything fun to do in the game and the disappointment of not being able to play a sexy chick, I'm just waiting for the next update and see if they add something worth doing. I'll be playing Overwatch or some other game that is actually fun in the mean time.

It's mostly CGs that keep me going. A focused effort on something for a brief period with the side effect of slowly getting the credits I will need for the Panther if it ever comes out. Eventually enough cash to have my fleet moved to Colonia if I feel like it. With engineering I'm in the same boat as the OP. The ships I regularly use are all grade 5 already, and the remaining ones are mainly collecting dust due to having very limited specific roles. So my motivation to grind the materials for the rest is pretty low.

Earned it in a legit way?

John according to the view of these forums, everything in the game has been 100% legit even when its exploitative as hell! As long as it benefits PVE focused players as well as PVP players.

The only non legit things in this game EVER are config cheats, combat logging and Grade 1 Engineer rolling. ( PVP players use these alot )

So yes, my billions are also 100% FDEV approved ( even though since patched out )

Hooray for the self serving

I've just over a billion and I'm only combat elite (and that was very recently) haven't done any trade at all and a little exploration and mining, I've joined a player faction in the BGS which I find is a good way to find a purpose if you ever find it lacking. CG's as well if I'm in the mood.

Currently I'm gitting gud with huge plasma accelerators just for the hell of it (they are really funky).

Avoid the grind, that way space-madness lies.

Hooray for the legit block function.

I have 2.2 billion on my pc account, elite in trade and exploration. Lots of ships, cutter, vette etc and loads of engineers. I'm taking that CMDR to Colonia at some point. I wanted to start fresh, so I purchased elite on the xbox. Currently I'm elite in trade and half a rank off elite exploration. 1.4 billion assets and already done the cutter/vette, not so many engineers though. Currently out in the rift. What keeps me going? Exploration is my main thing, with 400 billion systems there's plenty to go see. I would like to do some BGS stuff eventually with a few friends. But getting triple elite on both accounts is my main goal, credits are just a bonus. Plus I like flying space ships :p

Money, ships, rank rep, these are all just the tools for the real game... the BGS!
This ^^^

I'm just mid-ranked, but my to-do cue stretches over the horizon.

Don't pick a little quiet system out on the fringe.
Get ambitious.

Can you lead a group?
Do you have enough time to coordinate twenty CMDRs?

If you're at the top of the PvE food chain maybe it's time to look at moving to management and leadership.

It keeps me going because having a big upgraded, pimped with ship skins and decals PvE fleet is fun. Exploring the galaxy with out caring too much about re-buys is fun. After I hit certain wealthiness I started fully enjoy an appreciate Elite.
