A Question for the Mega-Rich, Accomplished Veterans among you...

Not mega rich just cleared my first billion (90+% of it in ships (30) and equipment) I've been playing regularly since pre-release beta (2800 + hrs) and I recently decided to rank up to admiral (been rear admiral for ages) as although theres currently no ship to unlock at vice admiral and admiral I don't think FD put the ranks in just for the fun of it (perhaps you get to command a battle group or a Farragut ;))

I've never pursued ships or cash just played away at a comfortable pace doing different things so I don't get bored, just tried long range passenger missions as they add decent rank improvements and turns out they're good fun :)

I'm triple elite, have over a year's game time and 2.3 billion assets. Neither the assets or the rankings have any real interest for me, they have been collected incidentally while working with my player group who are BGS-focussed. They are the only reasons I play. I expect I've donated more than 4 billion to minor factions and other players

I have 2.6 billion on my main account and am triple elite, plus two other accounts that have everything they need credit wise, one in colonia and one for exploration.

I have been playing a little less lately, for no particular reason. Trying some other games, catching up and RL stuff. Still love ED though and playing regularly.

Some things on my list:

I am planning to do the Ram Tah mission and read up on all the Gaurdians data.
Also trying the odd bit of PvP.
NPC piracy
Visiting some of the USS that I never really bother with and exploring what can happen in them.
Fixed weapons and/or FA-off practise.

I am Elite Explorer and tonight I will reach Elite Trader (93% Tycoon, just two hours of gameplay needed for the rest).
I am Dangerous and a Duke. Recently made my first billion, but bought a Cutter since, will make the money back soon. (Not counting the fleet worth another billion.)
I want to reach Elite Combat and become Rear Admiral, I will try to find a way to combine both (fighting in Federal civil wars).

I want to go to Sagittarius A* and Beagle Point and the Formidine Rift.
I want to visit all my name-sake stations (with "Robert" in their name).
I want to become King and Admiral.

And after that I could join the Fuel Rats or Iridium Wing. Or a powerplay faction.
Still need to learn proper asteroid mapping and proper circle strafing.

The game will keep me occupied for a few more years, I guess.

I have been playing Elite since 1984.

my current goal is fully engi another set of the ships i like to use and then i'm going to take them out to colonia to help out with the colonization initiative going on there

Just checked - to give you an idea how non-seriously I take ranking up I made elite trader a few months ago and I have 120mill in profits. Its all come through running missions for the factions I support

Ive been playing since the beginning, reset one account that was Elite/Tycoon/Ranger and im now Elite/Elite/Ranger. Got a heavily engineered fleet of ships based at Shinrarta and a few quid in the bank.

Virtual Reality is the main reason i continue to play. Elite in VR is a sublime experience and if you havent yet...just do it already.

I also love PvP and follow the CG Circus around the bubble looking for brawls.

Not to mention things are getting interesting in the Pleaides...

Powerplay - but then I've always been different other people :)

I think BGS or powerplay have the same ability to draw players in. I've gone for the former where the waiting to see what your actions have achieved and planning what to do the next period happens every 24 hours rather than every 7 days. Otherwise I expect the hook is the same

No idea what figure matches "mega rich", but it's an easy question to answer..

Beyond a few billion, the game doesn't change. I thought it did, but it doesn't.

For all the credits for everything the game offers 1000 times over, I find myself in my ASP exploring the void. There's no feeling like being out in the fringes, just you, your ship AI / voice attack Astra, checking out regions of space that you look up into your own night sky and just imagine what it's like out there.

That's Elite Dangerous for me. To look up in my own sky, and think.. hey, there's the pleiades cluster.. I'll go there tonight... or you want to visit cats paw nebula again and find a world you previously found.. or just go deeper into the milky way just because you can.

I'd love the immersive content in such trips to be a bit more fleshed out.. space legs, space walks, do a Neil Armstrong on some distant moon some 3000 LY away.. a lot I'd love to be able to do, but it's getting there.

Being cash well-off simply eliminates the credit wall, and lets you go off and explore the other 98% of the game unhindered. Sometimes, to know you don't need an A rated Cutter worth 1.2b, you need to have a cutter worth 1.2b. It's a mystical irony.

What keeps you going?

I come into a bit of a malaise with my ED experience of late. For context I've been plugging away since Beta. I'm Triple Elite. I've engineered every ship I give a damn about engineering to the nth degree. I've seen the sites galaxy wide. I suppose I'm goal driven in a game like this, and over time it's become harder and harder to find new things as checkboxes get ticked, and certainly spent the time with more experiential pursuits with months out exploring away from the bubble.

This isn't a gripe or complaint about the game, not at all, I adore this game but I'm digging for reasons to strap on the headset and jump in. The easy answer is to take a break, spent some time and come back when there's a patch, but the heart is still willing and looking for inspiration.

Some ideas I've been bouncing around internally ...
  • Finally get that CQC Elite squared away, match making makes this rather impractical.
  • Adopt BGS faction somewhere quiet on an edge of the bubble somewhere and start pursuing their interests.
  • Have an top tier engineered version of EVERY craft in the game, sounds totally pointless because I have *the* ship I want for each core role in Elite.
  • Head out to the core again hunting for Planetary Nebulae unknown to EDSM (my last trip I cataloged about 50 of 'em...).

I'm open... hungry for suggestions...

I was strugglng to find things to do well over a year ago... and precious little has been added since then.

So - like you - I find little reason to strap the headset on and play. I'm hoping V3 injects some depth/content to entice me back.

For me Powerplay is the driver to my BGS activities and ship choice etc.... in either case it provides a reason to do what you do, and provides enjoyment along the way :)

Same; I play from time to time; or when there's a bounty CG with a large payout on; but that's pretty much it.
I'm hoping this coming year is going to be the year that brings me back full time. That said, I am looking forward to what 2.4 brings; the return of the Thargoids, and the introduction of new weapons should prove interesting, at least for a while.

I find it kinda difficult to motivate me to farm further credits once I have all ships I want and a 1 billion cash safety net. Still, I'm plodding on, at 1.4 bil cash currently.

Especially considering the poor rankings... Some major grinding of "cash cow exploits" must have gone on there! Me thinks someone spent days on skimmer exploits or the likes...

tbh it's more as a 'future' investment.. No idea what kind of thing we'll be presented with later on. Ironically, most stuff is contained within a grind wall, so having the cash is only half of it.
