A Question for the Mega-Rich, Accomplished Veterans among you...

What keeps you going?

Everything! I now have over 4 Billion assets. over 30 ships. It's still fun.
At the moment i Build some PvP-ships, that i am havin theories about.
Then there is the minor faction of my clan.
AND Exploring. My Combat-rank has to reach Elite. It is the last Rank i need.

I come into a bit of a malaise with my ED experience of late. For context I've been plugging away since Beta. I'm Triple Elite. I've engineered every ship I give a damn about engineering to the nth degree. I've seen the sites galaxy wide. I suppose I'm goal driven in a game like this, and over time it's become harder and harder to find new things as checkboxes get ticked, and certainly spent the time with more experiential pursuits with months out exploring away from the bubble.

This isn't a gripe or complaint about the game, not at all, I adore this game but I'm digging for reasons to strap on the headset and jump in. The easy answer is to take a break, spent some time and come back when there's a patch, but the heart is still willing and looking for inspiration.

I have started a second account. It is RPG-Driven and the Ships are outfitted with Paintjobs matching it. He is wearing an Raider-Suit, his Cobra is corroded. The Cobra is the ship of his father. Now he was able to buy an old T-6 as second ship. It's really fun to play this way. My first account is played more often.

Some ideas I've been bouncing around internally ...
  • Finally get that CQC Elite squared away, match making makes this rather impractical.
  • Adopt BGS faction somewhere quiet on an edge of the bubble somewhere and start pursuing their interests.
  • Have an top tier engineered version of EVERY craft in the game, sounds totally pointless because I have *the* ship I want for each core role in Elite.
  • Head out to the core again hunting for Planetary Nebulae unknown to EDSM (my last trip I cataloged about 50 of 'em...).

I'm open... hungry for suggestions...

Red above!

The hypocrisy cheaters lulls themselves into is funny...

"So yes, my billions are also 100% FDEV approved ( even though since patched out )"

I have only 4 ships. No desire to acquire any more. Have the sum of liquid CR to fall into the so-called super rich.

I joined a wing, do group activities, BGS, interact w/ other wings plus whatever missions I grab.

Also prepping for aliens, sharpening mods, really can keep you busy.

It's what you make it. Also a short break helps, keeps things fresh.

Erasing saves for 2 years has kept my interest, I believe.

I never went full ship and character development though, only engineered one ship correctly, never reached elite in any way.
But as I was having a blast with condas, I sometimes felt this... "Now what?" feeling.

As I don't care a bit about being competitive or OP, the goal did not suit me.
So I started making characters with real stories, writing logs ; planning things in advance regarding their development. Trying to stay consistent, or not, for the sake of the story.
And as a +, I like the hard beginnings of this kind of game.

I've changed a bit for my latest playthrough : my goal is to have a safe and trustworthy boat for alien investigations. This feels exciting. And this keeps me working to the top!

- get an incredibly fast ship and troll CG gankers;
- go canyon running on a fast, agile craft;
- do PvP 1v1 duels against friends, especially in small / medium ships;
- help newbies in stater areas;
- become a fuel rat.

These are my suggestions, but of course eventually you WILL run out of things to do, if you play too often.

That's incredibly lame unless you're certain they're ganking. In which case... anything goes I suppose but that's some grade A passive aggressiveness. I've had losers like this interrupt prearranged fights. Greeefer. Rest of your ideas were great at least.

On the money question - hope everyone who abused the fines system with robigo et al is ready to pay up come 2.4! That'll be funny if they actually do it right.

I'd go for these 2. The first because the more I read about the BGS the cooler it sounds to do the player minor faction thing.

Secondly, I would make variants of my favorite ships. With engineering, a whole new world of combinations and loadouts are possible that are just not on a stock ship and some are pretty fun.

Currently I have a couple Vulture variants to my trusty old build, one has 2 large beams, 1 Overcharged with Thermal Conduit (er, the one that increases my dmg based on my heat), and an Efficient Beam with Thermal Vent, and I just alternate trigger pulls as needed and focus on staying glued to my target's blind spots. Not a build I like to run all the time, but definitely fun here and there. Make a high speed missile boat with high capacity mods and some lasers. All kinds of stuff. That keeps me busy when I'm not working on a specific goal.

Depending how many loadouts you build up its easier to transfer 1 ship than all the hardpoints if you move around a bit so that is why I don't just keep a bunch of loose weapons in storage.

It's not griefing. Not by a long shot. If you're at a CG or in the starting areas with a small "Mostly Harmless" ship and they interdict you, they deserve to die. Or at least be taken down to 20% hull and let go.

To the OP - Player groups

Elite racers
Buckyball racers
Fuel Rats
Hammers of Slough

And thats just 4

Also playing other games, I find If I leave for a few weeks/months I start to think of what I want to do and when I get back I have renewed enthusiasm. Then again even when I stop playing I still keep up on the forums and reddit so maybe thats why... :D

It must be that my post was written in english? I said, 'unless you're certain they're ganking'.

There are many player groups hungry for players, some doing just BGS and some also doing Power Play. These often have servers on Discord or on another chat program. Friends, fellowship and goal orientation can give you purpose again. The BGS was a salvation for me. Since then I've had too much to do. ;)

I help my PMF, mostly. Or play with IRL friends.
Still need elite in Exploration, and combat.
I'm only at Lvl 3 engineering wise on most of my ships, and don't have many unlocked as of yet. Don't care too much about that though. She's "Good enough" for me.

I take frequent breaks.

I simply enjoy flying the ship.

I'm also part of a small player faction, and we mess with the BGS a bit, too.

The only thing I'll say about this one is be prepared for what you're getting into. The BGS (this is all my observation) wasn't mean to be "played" as people play it, it was meant to be a background simulation that keeps things in the bubble ebbing and flowing. Be prepared for delayed results (waiting for the tick), influence grinding, and thankless victories (because in the end, you as a CMDR gain nothing).

That being said, there can be a great roleplay element to latching onto a faction or set of factions and working it/them.

Point of the game is to make money once you've done that now what you do with the money is the fun part
1. See how long you can withstand a station attack
2. Give it away in precious cargo
3. Outfit the most expensive ships you can
