Oculus sale - sold out?

It seems it is not just the rift bundle selling out, the Geforce GTX 1060 I wanted to get is out of stock everywhere I look :(
Is the 1080 worth it for almost twice as much?
Any other ideas?
Minimum spec GPU for my rig is the 970, but I think this will already be outdated, hoping to future prepare at least a little bit.
Also.. do you use the controllers that come with it or a HOTAS?
Thanks in advance for any help.
In answer to my own, and possibly others' questions I found this article useful:

if it were me and i wanted to somewhat future proof the CV1 but was on a bit of a budget i think a nice sweetspot would be the 1070

for pure immersion, which lets face it, that is the hook of VR, a hotas is not going to be beaten. you do not need to go mad either, the hotasx is around 30 quid

the xbox pad is still really handy however, i use mine for the SRV

Definitely get the 1080, especially for VR.

If at all possible that is.

Gulp! Just seen the GTX Titan... only a grand [money]
So, the 1080 it is. [yesnod]
And... put my name down for when the new warthog HOTAS comes out :D
I think maybe I should let Mrs Dare get on the computer now, before I spend any more money....
4K monitor anyone?

lol good work! :)

new wardhog coming out?... does this have an optional twist yaw by any chance? the current model does not which is why i did not get it. for me a twist yaw is essential... but i am already on my 2nd X55 and it has got the same fault as the last one (crud wring in the throttle).

i am currently looking at the Thrustmaster T.16000M FCS HOTAS for when it fully dies, but if there is a warthog but with a twist yaw i will be all over that!

Warthog and equivalent aren't in the market group for people who wants twist.
the people who spends $300 in a HOTAS are also the ones who know twist is a terrible and likely to break feature, and just rather get pedals as well.

Also, try for instance to engage twist and not cause any pitch and roll.
Or better yet, to perfectly control roll and pitch at the same time as, say yaw on twist.
The human wrist just doesn't move in that fashion.

Trust me, even for elite having a pair of flight pedals are amaze-balls.
Might even be especially good for elite.

*sigh* More expense?
Are these any good?

From what I here, a lot of people pair exactly those with with warthogs.

And yes, this game can get woefully expensive :(

Ok, thanks, I will see if I can sneak another parcel past Mrs Dare ;)
Meanwhile, back on the OPs original thread, any idea how long it takes for the rift bundle to ship from Oculus? Should have checked delivery times but I have a nasty feeling that with such high demand it may be some time :(

they went fast!...... i know its irritating if you are trying to get one but i am really excited about how many people are joining the VR hypetrain. more hardware sales means more software sales.

more software sales means more VR software.

There was another retailer yesterday or monday that had 20+ in stock. It was gone in minutes after it was posted on reddit.

Yep. Every forum I visit is full folks that have grabbed this deal. Oculus has done a good thing here in their effort to build the user base. The glass is definitely half full.

indeed that was why i said optional... ideally with a pin to lock the stick in place.

I totally get why twist yaw is not ideal, also the hog is based on a real stick so cant have a forced twist yaw.
my issue is one of practicality. i just do not have the space for pedals. my flight seat is also my racing seat, and whilst i wouldnt mind pedals, not at the expensce of my racing pedals. i also need to be able to push the whole seat to one side when i do my full room vr.

so the twist yaw for me is a vital compromise

PS sadly my current flight stick was almost $300 in your fake money :p

iirc in real money ( :) )it was £180 and that was back when it was about $1.6 to the £1

I ordered mine direct from Oculus last night.

I read they ship in from abroad... I assume I won't get stung with any silly import taxes? ie: I paid them £399 and I don't expect to pay more!?

no you wont pay more it is the all in price :)

good work on jumping on the bandwagon. i know you were dubious with your space issues but there is enough (imo) content to make it worth while even with seated experiences.

(luckys tale (free) defence grid VR, pinball FX2 VR and edge of nowhere are good seated games to wet your whistle (and ED, Assetto Corsa, dirt rally and ETS2 of course)

Oh! ETS2 is Oculus friendly? Didn't know that!

I've order the much discussed Inateck 4 port USB card too so I'll have two USB3 ports free on my MB and four on that PCI card - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Inateck-Superspeed-Ports-PCI-E-Expansion/dp/B00B6ZCNGM

BTW - Do you leave all your sensors and deadset plugged in all the time? Or do you plug them in when needed?
