I bought one yesterday at Darnielle (exactly one in stock) so it's still there. What I am wondering about though: Is there a way through gameplay (i.e. NOT databases outside of the game) that you could have found out that Meta Alloy can only be found there? I mean a way except for manually clicking through millions of locations on the galaxy map? I'm wondering what FD were trying to achieve here? Were they trying to incentivize people to hit up community sites or the forums or to learn how to use Google more? It seems kind of puzzling to me that the FIRST requirement is to find such a super-e(xc)lusive resource, no?
P.S.: Don't be a n00b like me and just enter 'Darnielle' on the galaxy map and take off. Make sure it is the Maia system that you are heading towards and the 'Darnielle' planetary location. By just entering 'Darnielle' and rushing off I ended up somewhere in the "opposite" (as far as that is possible in space) direction and had to do tons upon tons of unnecessary extra mileage. The only positive was the additional exploration data for Mrs. Farseer.

Nope.
3rd party tools and communities are more or less intricated into the game. If you check Galnet news in game, they refer to 3rd party communities such as The Cannon, and therefore to their tools... Player driven communities have their own factions in game... Is it legit/canon/intended gameplay ? Is Cylixx therefore right ?
the commodity description of meta-alloys in the commodity market points to the pleiades as well as various galnet articles. but yeah.
generally, all things ingame have been found originally before a third party site had a guide on it.
most of it group effort, some luck.
