Ships What ship should i buy next?

I currently have a cobra mk 3 and a vulture, however I don't really like the vulture. I would like to get a new ship I'm thinking about selling the vulture and I already have 8 million credits. I like the versatility of the cobra because I do a lot of combat and some boom cargo missions
What is a good ship for both that I could afford?

I'd guess you'd have around 20 mil with selling the Vulture so you could afford a top spec Asp X (buy from Alioth 20% discount if you have the permit), essentially it's the next multi-role ship after the Cobra 3, this build is engineered but even stock is a decent ship

A Keelback with its fighter bay is an interesting combination and a fun ship

If you have Fed rank an FDS is just within budget although it probably needs some engineering to work at it's best

If you have Imp rank an iCourier is a superb little fighter

A Viper 4 might be an interesting replacement for a Vulture

The Keelback is great. It's a different style of combat to rely on your fighter a lot, but it's really a powerful ship when used with the fighter.

The Asp will also be a very strong multirole upgrade from the Cobra.

Agree

I'll be going for the ASP explorer after my viper as I've read some rather good reviews on it. Can't wait!

Was going to get the Vulture but I don't want to just stick to one role.

The Keelback is a great ship. Just as versatile as the cobra and the fighter adds a whole different form of gameplay.

The Asp. I'm not a fan because I find it boring but it has everything well rounded with good maneuverability and firepower. It's also a dinner plate so try to yaw more than pitch in combat. It holds a little more than the T6 and its armed almost as good as the Vulture. It has all the compartments you need for exploring.

Surly that's a good thing then mate haha

Get an Asp soon as you can. I still use mine every day, after a couple of years playing.

I quite liked relying on my fighter with my mining Keelback, however taking on anything more than an Asp Scout or so really didn't go well for me. I found the SLFs die way too quickly, at least mine do. Would I be better off hiring a crew mate to fly them while I stay in my Keelback and take pot-shots? I am mildly combat impaired.

The key to a decent combat Keelback is a good crew member. Competent minimum better is better :)

You can train them pretty easily in a HIRes by following the cops and kill stealing from them. Until they get past competent I will dictate when/who they attack and put them on passive most of the time while I swap between the fighter and the KB.

My normal mode of ops would be jump in the fighter (Fixed beam Taipan for me) Set the crew to defensive then pick my target. Strip their shields and get them focused on me. Then get the crew in the KB to engage. If the target is a tough one I would often lose the fighter at which point I take over the KB and keep fighting (well setup with some engineering its a tough nut to crack) and when the fighter was rebuilt I'd launch it again with the crew on attack mode. I would be able to farm HIRes all day long as long as I had enough mats for reloads etc.

Overall I love the KB and if it weren't for my current foray into the bigger medium ships (Python and Dropship) I'd probably be in my Keelback.

Solid info, thanks!
