Rank lock the 'Conda to expert or master?!

This thread blew up quite quickly, I dont think it should be rank locked by combat only though since its a multipurpose ship, maybe a master equivalent of trading and exploration I see lots of low combat ranked commanders that trade
what would the point be aside from forcing more grind in ships with lower cargo capacity?

actually i think combat rank above competent should decay back down to competent slowly unless you keep engaging in combat. it strikes me as odd, kind of like a tennis player never losing world number one ranking even if they are injured and unable to play for a year.

+1. Combat rank should degrade over time. One of my alts got too high and I had to get the rank reset via a ticket. I don't know how many times I can do that. Having it degrade back to harmless would be great! Maybe if I killed lower ranked NPCs, it would take the rank down. Something like that.

if i get interdicted i normally throttle down to see what im up against. while im checking it out i decide if its anaconda corvette or python not to fight. if its anything else i have already targetted its powerplant and im using the kws on it to max the bounty. im competent still, because no hurry to rank up combat.

I agree with the latter statement. +1

Im pretty sure if a new player goes to a certain periphery system and spends two days grinding a certain repetitive mission type, it's possible to be in an Anaconda.

Seeing harmless players in Anaconda's is breaking the game IMO, It just looks wrong.

And breaks all the effort on the part of FD to make the first 40 hours of gameplay meaningful and seems to be totally at odds with this ethos.

You surely are aware this game has two other Elite rankings, right? I was double Elite (trade and exploration) while harmless in combat.

Give it a bit of thinking before coming here with proposals.

Hehehe... You are a bad influence Sir. But I like the idea.

Can someone please shove me back to harmless? ;)

Yeah that's great, until people start talking about virtual spaceships like they're real and demanding that players be forced to pass some kind of virtual space-HGV test before allowing them to fly one "weighing" more than x tons. At that point it becomes farcical.

and the conda is a pretty lightweight ship and nobody talks about the type-7, Type-9 or Beluga [big grin]

The logic is no different than not qualifying a divemaster with less than 60 logged dives or asking a heavy goods vehicle driver be 21 and have a valid drivers license before getting behind the wheel with an instructor.

"So, fresh out of Space Academy with two hours in a Sidewinder, here's the keys to a 400 ton Anaconda. We foresee nothing, but good things from this arrangement."

It's called common sense.

The USAF handed me an F-4D, then an F-16A. Before I was 17, I had an IFR rating. Obviously, bad calls all around. :)

This is a video game. :)

What's it to you ?
Mind your own business.

Threads like this make me almost tempted to reset my save, earn conda-credits while avoiding combat completely so I'm still harmless, then go looking for him to see if he wants to find out if I'm as harmless as I look... I wouldn't even start it...

But only "almost tempted" - I won't. But still....

My alt account has moved up to an Asp Explorer, and is perfectly happy there. :)

The main account has a Python, and does not want to go much further, since Alison The Asp Explorer has a 43 light-year jump range. All from nearly three years work before learning that everyone else cheated. :)

Nothing unusual here I think, since this happens in real life as well. For example some ambitious motorcyclists choose an YZF-R1 as their first wheels because they are rich and think they can handle the bike. Fortunately an Anaconda is more forgiving than a 1000cc super sport :)

I'm qualified to deliver nukes, and won't get back into a Cessna 172.... too old, need to use the bathroom. :(

Who cares. They may be harmless in combat but mid to upper levels in Trading and the Anaconda is defiantly part of ship progression when being a trader. Not everyone plays the game to PEW PEW with the bro's. If they can earn enough in 6 to 8 days (aka 80 100 hours of actual trading), then that is fine. This game has no end goal and ships mean nothing as far as progression is concerned. Again this is another person who is butthurt that it took 6 months to earn a ship because the game lacked the means to obtain it in a more efficient manner.

The only thing we spend money on are out ships and the ships people own has 0 impact on the game universe. The only impact it might have is for people who specifically set out to grief other players. Soon that will be a non issue once Karma and C&P are added.

Please no more posts like this, FD actually listen to stuff like this and as such tend to increase the grind for the rest of us who play honestly.

The way to end this is to have kill mail's and a killboard so we can all laugh when a noobie loses an anaconda.

My Anaconda is used to get modules Engineered for my other ships... no need to be elite in combat for such tasks. Let players do what they want and buy what they want, I just worry about what I'm doing in GAME.

The problem with that is not everyone uses the Anaconda for combat. People also use it for trading and exploring (it has the best jump range in the game).

FD did it for me. It took reopening the ticket because the first time, they only reset my rank progression to zero. The 2nd submission got it done. Back to harmless. But it's gaining again. I have another alt that's been promoted and might need to have its rank reset before long. I don't know if FD will do it multiple times. It's not time yet anyway, so we'll see sometime in the future.

Rank lock the whole game to Elite so everyone has to fly Sideys lol, as other's have said the rebuy alone would make them think twice in some cases

Indeed - given that engaging in combat is optional in this game - two of the three Elite ranks can be achieved without firing a shot.

Not sure about that Bobby. How you gonna smash those rocks open without firing a shot? ;)

FdL should be Elite in exploration.
Asp is more CQC Elite, in my opinion.

All Falcon deLacy, Lacoon and Zorgon ships should be anti-rank locked, so you can't buy them If you have navy rank.

Anaconda should be only for those who reach triple Elite, in the Sidewinder.

The dropship series should requre a RL bus licence and Gutamaya ships a documended career in the adult entertainment industry.

T9 should require a master in argriculture and a plus 34 BMI.

I wouldn't be surprised if there were players who thought that all that is a genuinely good idea ^^

Remember the umbrage about telepresence & instant transfers?

Hence, I think you might be on to a bit of a loser with the 'reality' angle on these forums! :D

That's a good point, we're not actually flying the ships, we're just controlling an avatar which we've presumably been given "clearance" to control already, therefore ship licenses are a moot point :)

I'm not a big fan of rep decay in the game. It makes me feel like I'm being coerced into playing it when I don't feel like it because the game will punish me if I don't. ED is the neediest game I've ever played.

Dang it so close..Now I have to get a bus licence.

;) :p

let the kids cheat their way into a conda. It's not like it makes them a good player. They'll be forced to either always play where pvp isn't possible or they'll combat log. They likely dont have the patience to be meaningful in the BGS so in essence, they dont matter and will never matter. Just transient players that will go back to cheating in overwatch or whatever they were playing before picking up elite. Not really worth caring about.
