13th's Lord Commander Gets Destroyed in single combat by ace pilot Harry Potter!

After Nightshady's duel with Eent the other day (which he won after a grueling twenty minutes) he was on the discord offering to "give pointers and offer advice on what you did wrong" to Eent. Have you offered Nightshady the same olive branch, Harry? Let him know what he did wrong and how to up his game?

Hmmmm.

No KWS on your target.

Most of the engagement was spent in lag pursuit, except when going nose-to-nose.

Ranges were well over 3 km during much of the fight. No long-range weapons. Only 2 pips to engines.

Your opponent did not seem to have any weapons that were effective, or he forgot to pull the trigger.

Lots of time spent synthesizing your ammo.

You did not target the power plant, until late in the fight.

Several times, he was spread-eagled in front of you, no shields, and you had no secondary weapons, such as cannons, missiles, dumbfires, mines, or even a Class 1 laser to shoot him with.

He wasted several opportunities to recharge his shield. When he got down to one ring, the fight was over. He was also over-dependent on chaff as his defenses. He should have extended, escaped, repaired (you did repair), and returned on better terms.

It was essentially an attrition battle/joust between two FDL's, both with maxed thrusters. If this was a pre-arranged fight, with a no high wake agreement, I can understand why he hung around. I would have jumped, long before.

True, but he's an ace pilot. He said so himself, so it has to be true.

If you listen carefully to the video soundtrack you can just hear, "Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast."

As an Ace Pilot representing the Pilot's Federation, I feel that it would be his duty to.

Can we have a new subforum please?

I dunno.

I didn't really see anything in that fight that you wouldn't see in a fight between a couple of newbies in stock Sidewinders.

Joust, turn, joust, turn, joust, turn, joust........

I guess it's all about having the cool toys to take into a fight.

Perhaps they could try stock Sidewinders. Serious. The Sidewinder is an excellent little ship.

well, he can watch the video ...

didn't watch the whole fight (a bit boring, tbh), but after the first pass at the latest he had to know harry was on frags. then he gets distance (good), then he doesn't seem to fire at all (meh), then he comes up close again (?), gets a shotgun in the face, seems to have no weapon to do close range damage either (so what's the point in getting close?), then he gets distance again and then ... rinse and repeat. over and over ... until it's over.

not saying i would have done any better. just saying :D

I am not a PVP player, but this duel seems... odd to me, so I'm assuming I'm missing something.

Why did Nighshady get all the time in close range, when obviously Harry had the advantage there with his frag cannons? The logical thing to do when your shields are down is to keep distance (more even so against frag cannons) and let your shields recharge. Why was he still charging even when his shields were down? Some sort of code of conduct in PVP duels?

In all seriousness, though: Nightshady is a great combat pilot, as are a number of other members of his team. So is Harry, obviously somewhat better.

Of course there are many other top pilots out there that are arguably "better" than these two, but for all practical purposes either one of these guys would be your death sentence if you were unlucky enough to cross paths. I get your derision though, loud and clear. Is it because you personally think of some other pilots as being the heavy weight champs, or is it the usual forum practice of being disrespectful to PvPers?
