Odd behaviour during playing game.

Hi all,

Looking to pick your brains. I've tried googling etc and either my google-fu is weak today or.. Anyway back story:

Got the Vive a couple of days ago and have been having fun seeing whats out there game wise etc, while messing around with the settings to get the best experience. So far so good. NOTE: I'm still using the original launcher, with the options set to HMD.

However, I've notice in ED that a certain points i.e. loading starts (screen changes in stations, game start etc.etc.) and possibly others, the screen sort of dulls and I can see the SteamVR screen - the one that is basically empty except you can see the play area marked out on the floor in white or grey and circles on the floor and 'roof' usually with the SteamVR loading thingy box somewhere too. This only flashes up briefly but it's really annoying.

Anyone have any clues as to what I'd doing wrong?

eta: Just for clarity, I am not talking about the boundaries / chaperone lines.

I get this occasionally as well and I don't know that there's much to be done about it. However, you might try launching ED from Steam Home to see if that changes things. My guess is, it will continue to happen but it's something that came to mind as I was writing this reply.

It's a common and really annoying thing with steamvr.

But this is what steamvr does when something doesn't respond for a few ticks.
It goes back to displaying it's empty start area.
I honestly thought they had adjusted this ?!

It's quite surprising you didn't find anything googling.

Well I've tried every trick I could find online, chatted with Vive Support(US) and it seems that the headset may well be a duffer.. :( have to wait til Monday and contact UK support.

Sounds like you're getting frame drops. Your PC is loading something and/or struggling at that point and SteamVR displays that screen (loading area/environment) when it isn't receiving or cannot display any frames from your game

What are you PC specifications?

Ha, sorted. :)

If it does come up again, it's just the default backdrop SteamVR will fall back to and is a good sign in a way - it means your VR rig is working as intended - but there might be an issue elsewhere
