Engineers Engineers have taken alot of the fun of the game away.

Now I know that the moment you read the title you are gunna think.. Dam someone else having a moan about the engineers. The grind the dam RNG and how it's killing the game. Well that is not what my post is about. I actually like the engineers, the RNG can be a but hey it is what it is. What the engineers have done is taken the fun out of flying my ships. My Python is a tank, my FDL is a killing machine i can basically do whatever i want in the game without any fear. Engineers have taken the danger out of Elite Dangerous. I play 80% of the game in my, over over engineered, DBX that's because there is still some element of danger in whatever i do. Sure i can easily take down a Conda with it, but i have also been taken out by one a few times. I have had some great dog fights with my DBX. In my other 2 ships i just pull the trigger and 20 seconds later they are dead. I now have no desire to upgrade to any of the top 3 ships as they would be even less fun to fly than the 3 ships i have now. There needs to be more danger in the game better npc's or bigger wings unless you go into a hi res site with cargo you can easily pick off the ships for hours and hours and hours where's the fun in that ?

Try a bit of PvP in open. Just think of other cmdrs as engineered NPCs :)

Even before engineers, Cmdr ships were overpowered vs NPCs simply because we could do things they can't (FA-off, subsystem targeting, maxing out ship shields/armour etc...). With the engineers things are even more one sided. The only challenge now is other cmdrs.

Remains to be seen if Thargoids will actually pose a threat.

Not that long ago Sandro acknowledged the need for greater challenges to cater to engineered ships, I think it was in one of the karma threads. I expect we'll see some of it arrive with thargoids.

I'm planning on leaving the area, to not have to grind for them.

I play on the XBox and hardly ever see another player and only once have i been in a PVP battle. They interdicted me and i ran away, they interdicted me again so i stayed to fight. I got away alive, just, because my ship is not setup with the weapons needed for PVP i was doing a CG and had all lasers on so i could kill in the hi res site for longer. It was a good fight but i never really stood a chance, they were using a cutter.

As much as I personally enjoy engineering, I'd be quite disappointed if they made it so that engineering was actually required to participate in the thargoid content. Hopefully thargoids will come in a variety of threat levels so that everybody can get involved no matter what ship(s) they're using.

Never mind OP, the Thargoids are coming along shortly to kick our backsides.

Also, if the game is losing its challenge, get into PVP. It's far from perfect, but you won't be complaining it's too easy.

Yeah echo the sentiments above. Open play at community goals will give you the challenge you need.

Dont be surprised to find yourself doing a runner in your maxed out death star when you get laid into by a bunch of equally brutal warships.

I like using NPCs for preliminary loadout testing, before i use it in the wild.

It will be required. Why do you think it was shoved down our throats?

Well, you're doing it wrong. And that's because the game also scales the NPCs according to your rank and the ship you're flying. When in the cutter, I encounter deadly FDLs and Anacondas. When in the FDL, FAS and the like. I don't like the DBX so IDK what ships you encounter while in it. If you need fear, try to hunt in compromised nav beacon while carrying some gold, or go wanted into a hi-sec one. You can also try low intensity conflict zone - the general belief is that they are harder due to AI focusing more on you, as there is less ships to shot at.

Also the big three are fun to fly, in their whale-ish slow kind-of way. At least try (although the grind can be a hitch).

If the NPCs and dangers were increased to match up to the engineering, then new players who doesn't have engineering will be at huge disadvantage. How would the new players be able to survive if the dangers were matched up to god-rolled G5 mods? So it wouldn't be good to do as an overall change in the game. But, perhaps there needs to be some improvement to the higher level NPCs. So if you have a G5 mod, then you'll meet NPCs with G5s.

Also, after all, it's your choice to engineer, so if you want to be challenged without engineering, then don't use them. Remove the mods.

So if they up the challenge to mitigate the buff from engineer upgrades, we are back to square 1. Only that we have grinded for 100s of hours just to reach a the same status quo just with bigger numbers on everything...

Plus the fact that players without Horizons would be a bit stuffed.

well, if the npc`s are too weak for your engineered ship, why don`t you just use a non combat ship? Try a Dolphin or a T7 for combat. I did exploration to SagA* with a Clipper and a FDL.

Challenge yourself.

FDev seem to struggle with AI combat balance. It's either too easy or too hard. In fairness there are so many variables that it can't be easy so it's fairly understandable. What I'd like to see and Sandro has hinted that he'd like it too are combat missions that are balanced for a specific ship, like a mission you can only complete using an Eagle or even better an Eagle that is provided to you by the mission giver.

At the very least there needs to be clear classes of ships and much better 'match making' when spawning enemy AI.

Some engineer mods, especially shield and armor, are so overpowered that it's impossible to provide balanced NPC enemies. I don't believe Thargoids can change the fact that some player ships have 200 hp and some have 10000 hp or more. Similar issue exists between combat optimized ships and any other ship type.

TBH I don't think it's the engineers. I find that even flying un engineered ships you can still trounce most if not all the NPC's and heck I will go to a HAZRes in my cobra IV at times to get a good challenge.

In general I don't think ED is very dangerous at all...
