I just don't get it - baffled and on the verge of uninstall - Yes I said it!

Look here FD, let me lay out some facts you already know...

The vast majority of your customers play Elite to enjoy the Milky way (FACT) you created based on 'what we know now' and what a blooming fantastic job you did! (FACT) ... some 3 years + ago...
Since then you have slowly but surely degraded your work (FACT), I would not mind if it had just stayed the same! But with each release your masterpiece gets another slice taken out of it. Please try to tread more carefully through the flowerbed you made because it's starting to look like a muddy puddle!

Now I'm a Software product manager by day and I understand the pressures of your boardroom and all the favours you have to pull to satisfy some of the big backers and investors, delivering those features you promised them and no-doubt they are still banging on the table asking when 'whatnot' and 'whatever' is going to be delivered..been there, burnt the t-shirt.

Now you have to strike a balance between what you promised the big investors and what your customers want.. because if you don't you will be delivering 'whatnot' and 'whatever' to a playerless server.. That's the tip of the iceberg though. Your once loyal player base will have gone, many trashing the reputation of FD and moving on to the competition.. Then you know what happens next right? The same investors you tried to appease in the short term will be very cross!

The answer to this problem is to tell your investors to sit the jolly well down and let you work your magic at your own speed and introduce their 'whatnots' and 'whatevers' when you are ready.

Now I understand you have to get the Thargoids out the door (2.4) so i'm not expecting any love in 2.4. But please, in 3.0 or whatever version ID comes next, can you show some love for the vast majority of your customers who backed you from day one... That's right, show some love for the explorers, because right now i'm on the edge and I'm confident i'm not alone. I Can't bear to see the exploration role get any worse, it's heart breaking.

Thanks for listening and spare a thought for the explorers in the planning of 3.0.... I hope to say 'Right on FD!'

Best regards

Nutter

(EDIT) For those who know not what I speak of... Here is the poll on prefered gameplay https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/324892-What-Profession-are-you
And here is a list of things that have got worse

Terrain Nerf
Adding eye candy but no tools to find it
Not adding any new exploring tools
System Map degraded
Galaxy map degraded, verging on broken
Sky Map Degraded with 'dust'
Total lack of love for explorers

OP missed the comments from FDev that 'post-2.4' will focus on updating/fixing/improving the core gameplay (FACT) ;)

Yep and no mention of Exploring - Drawing on all of the previous releases the 'CORE' gameplay is Peww Peww - So i'll stick to my OP thanks.

I'm with you Nutter, that exploration needs some love.
But I'm not sure I know the source of your rant. Is sounds like it's something specific, like some straw that broke the camels back for you. Beats me if I know specifically what it is.

In any event, FD has said that core improvements will come post-2.4, and exploration and the galaxy itself is a pretty core element, so I'm confident that improvements will come in 2.5.

So sure, if you have to, uninstall it until then. But ranting at FD to fix something that they already said they're going to fix seems a bit pointless.

Really? Exploring is not core-game play in a game built around exploring the largest galaxy ever created in a game (at the time, and still probably the case)?! They've specifically mentioned ALL aspects of the game. And I agree with Marra, your facts are NOT facts... Mine was, as it was taken directly FROM comments by FDev. Exploration will get love, they've stated all aspects of Elite will be looked at and updated to improve the core experience (hell, even PP is expected to get some loving)

I will have to disagree with you that the vast majority of ED customers are here for exploration... There is a sizeable portion that are, but they are dwarfed by the pew-pew'ers and space truckers.

EDIT - Also want to add, I agree exploration needs love, but so does every other aspect of the core exprience, and I wholly expect FDev is including that in their mention of 'core'.

Could you explain what it is you're actually complaining about? I can't find any information at all in your post (FACT) :)

Ok I must say I don't really get it myself, with all due respect.
There are "slices" of the work being taken apart at each release.

What slice? If it is about the milky way and exploration, is it about the beigeification (that I consider as some sort of downgrade) about which community manager just answered?
Or how did exploration get worse? Also, sandro replied to an exploration thread not so long ago, with the intent of reinjecting gameplay into it.

So what are the specifics? there's a missing part.

Yes there has been. Just look in the forums and you will find it.

Hello Commanders!

For what it's worth, I personally wouldn't mind removing the infinite honk, just as I'd like to see the removal of the basic stellar scan that forces you to fly close to get any data. I would like to see processes that were a little more involved (and cool looking/feeling) with regards to Commanders actually having to do something, whilst minimising uncessessary super cruise travel time. But this is just me musing. Like the karma system, exploration (and extraction) is something that we'll hopefully be getting into in some more depth in the forums.

Hello Commander RLSG!

We won't just be looking at stellar body discovery.

To be clear, the reasons I would like to replace the honk and eyeball scanning would not be to drag out exploration time, but to give the game play:

* A modicum of player-skill, along with a suitable minor skill-based reward
* A feeling of verisimilitude, that you're operating advanced sensor equipment like a boss
* Satisfying processes, improved visual/audio/interactions
* A reduction required super cruise travel, so you only need to travel to a planet if you're definitely interested in investigating it

Also worth noting, this is a separate point to the concept of having things to discover during exploration (which we see as equally important).

Hello Commander DrewCarnegie!

I'm talking about the necessity to fly close to a stellar body to gain basic exploration information, and make it so that you will only need to fly to bodies when you have a reason to get up close.

Of course, this is just the current thinking; we'll see what falls out when we get more stuck in.

I suggest you get your FACTS correct next time.

i think you're onto something there. investors would kill their moms for knowing what it is customers want.

heck, even many customers would!

serious, as i see it, ed is two things: a galaxy simulation, and a multiplayer game built around/on top of it. frontier are pioneers in the first aspect, but had zero experience in the second which of course adds tension to the process, and has detracted energy from galaxy representation, but is no reason to back off either. they're learning. it's still a good game (ahem if you mostly play it solo).

otoh your expectations are not universal. what do you expect anyway?

Too much subjectivity in your post, Nutter, and not enough FACT.

I'd also love to see some more exploration based dev love, but I enjoy the entire game so I can afford to wait while they get to it. Keeping my fingers crossed that they do actually get to it!

Well, they did say that the beige bug is being worked on, they just don't have an ETA.
For eye candy and exploration tools, I'm expecting some of that, in some form to come with the "core updates".
Regarding the system/galaxy/sky maps degradation, I can't comment. Haven't noticed these. Though I haven't played in about 2 months.
