Why would you ever buy 1T corrosion resistant racks?

I was just wondering if anyone had a good use case for when the 1T corrosion resistant cargo rack was the best choice?

There are thargoid relics and stuff that you can find for unique events. Thargoid tech damages your hull unless you have the corosion resistance.

A 2t capacity corrosion resistant cargo rack fits in the same size internal compartment as a 1t one, and the price difference is really negligible.

It confuses me as to why the 1T version is in the game. Having a cargo slot as corrosive resistant does not prevent normal cargo going into that slot so it has literally no use.

The cargo resistant rack was introduced as the result of a CG to take Meta Alloys to Palin, the 1T version was the tier 1 reward, 2T the tier 2, but strangely not many people came out for that CG. I still wonder today if the same broken function would have continued all the way up the chain to the 8th tier with an 8T cargo rack fitting into a size 1 slot - who knows.

I assume the 1T rack was supposed to be removed but they never got around to it - understandable as so few showed interest in the CG.

I kind of suspect it was to fill up the stages :
level 1=half a class 1 (1t)
level 2=a full class 1 (2t)
Level 3= half a class 2 (3t (or maybe also two tons but that would have been the stupidest option ever)
Level 4=full class 2 (4t)
etc...

Or maybe it just went 1t, 2t, 4t,8t,...

Have you tried it with UA:s or UP:s?

If you get any of those onboard, the "behind the scenes" prio is to move those items into the Corrosive Resistant cargoholds.

Thought the same thing myself.

I get that they might want to make it difficult for people to "UA bomb" by restricting the racks to small capacities but it seems loopy to offer a 1t rack AND a 2t rack both in C1.
Dunno why they didn't make the 2t racks a C2 item.

I wonder how many of the 1t racks Palin has sold?

......sorry for sarcasm but REALLY??!?

The whole premise of the thread is: why would you use the 1T over the 2T when they both fit into a size 1 slot. They both provide the same function, but one is objectively better. A corrosive slot, does not reduce your normal capacity by 1, therefore there is no advantage in using the 1T instead of the 2T. I'm confused as to why there is a 1T rack, not how they work.

But 2 is a prime number too. :)

:D

I should have just gone with 'odd number', but I was trying to be clever.
Fail.

Nothing to do with making ua bombing more difficult.

The CG that ran to put these in the game went poorly, barely hit tier 4, with roughly 8 tiers available. Each tier increased the size of the available racks.

One problem with the cg was the volumes. The goals were set for a typical A->B cargo haul, but instead of being able to load up instantly with a full hold of cargo... since the target cargo was meta alloys thou could only get two at a time, log out, log in, rinse, repeat, taking hours to fill one ship load.

When the contributions barely made a pixel of progress, FD reduced the amounts of MAs required, but it was still grossly disproportionate.

Tldr we could've had 16/32t bigger crcrs, possibly bigger, but the cg didn't get enough contribution.

Due to rising economic pressure from Brexit and global markets Palin is reducing the size of the cargo rack in order to maintain the price of your weekly commanders shopping bill. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Interesting stuff.

How long ago was that CG?
I've been playing, on and off, for 2 years and I don't remember that CG.
Then again, a CG to haul MAs sounds like the sort of thing I'd have given a miss for exactly the reasons you mention.

Funny though, I read that there used to be 8t CR Cargo racks but they got nerfed due to making it too easy to UA bomb.
That was on reddit too, IIRC. [where is it]

24th-31st March 2016. That was back in the days when we had a single thread for CGs that was just a regular Dangerous Discussions one, rather than the single thread per CG in their own section we have now. That one was contained within the fifth CG megathread.

To save anyone searching for it, here are the details and the final outcome:

Description:
Professor Ishmael Palin has shocked medical personnel at Wilkes Orbital by returning to work only hours after he received the antidote to the Cerberus Plague. According to Palin's doctor, the professor was eager to talk to Lea Tantaga, the molecular chemist who recently developed a material capable of countering the Unknown Artefacts' self-repair mechanism. The scientists' conversation resulted in the following statement from Professor Palin:

"The significance of Professor Tantaga's breakthrough is clear: the means to safely contain the Unknown Artefacts is now within our grasp. What we need now are quantities of meta-alloys so we can produce more of the UA-resistant material."

A conglomerate based in the Maia system has pledged to support the appeal by mass-producing the UA-resistant material if sufficient quantities of meta-alloys are received. Thos will then be used to create special ship modules that can safely transport the Unknown Artefacts.

The Pioneer's Cooperative has placed an open order for meta-alloys, and has promised to generously reward pilots who contribute to the initiative. The campaign begins on the 24th March and will run for one week.
