Storybook Galaxy Free playable mission released

Installed it, doesn't work.

Mind you I have a complex set of non-HCS VA scripts so there may be a clash but it seems that the HCS Journal Reader is not available to VA despite being installed.

Have contacted the author for assistance.

Others might have more success.

Shame, it looked interesting.

Sent you a reply - Install the plugins by the way, as per the manual.

Of course. The dlc contains an entire chapter (all the recorded audio in an installer). Also, a plugins installer for Elite Dangerous "Journal" (installer). A pdf manual with a comprehensive manual. Plenty of information in the download.

Well, started ok, got the mission to start, but there were no cargo missions at Lave, so left and came back, and picked up a cargo mission, however that didnt seem to trigger the next event.
tried it twice, left the system, came back, picked up a cargo mission, even went as far as delivering it, but still no trigger for the next event :(

Looks really good, guess it's just teething issues.

You know, I understand that you do not know that my day job is as a computer programmer, but it gets really old when people advise me of the obvious, especially when I said in my post that it was installed. The installation was not quite as per the manual since the second file that needed to be installed was not there. It was, in fact called something else.

Suffice it to say that the plugin was successfully installed and initialised in VoiceAttack but it appears that it cannot be accessed from within a VA script.

Like I said, I have a huge set of VA scripts written as well as having EDDI installed and I also have a startup script as well.

Now, out of the box this new profile does not work and it is probably something to do with the correct start up script not running in the HCS pack, but since I do not know which script should be running on start up, the manual is completely lacking in this regard, I cannot call the correct script in my own start up script.

You see, the publishers of this interesting story seem to have assumed that either I have no scripts or profile in VA or that I am using one of their voice pack profiles. The result is that their system does not install correctly and therefore does not work.

Yet.

I'm sure we'll get it sorted eventually.

well no, that is a completely incorrect statement. We provided profiles for with and without a pack. If you have an issue then please expand further, here, on our forum or in discord. We want to know why it isn't working for you and sort it.

Can't wait to try it, hopefully tomorow ....
I wish that kind of expansion by HCS could develop further : I certainly would drop a few bucks for that :)

Just watched ObsidianAnt's video about this and it looks impressive.

Speaking as somebody without VA it irritates me that I'll miss out on this but, cest la vie.

Maybe a little OT but I can't help wondering what level of integration with ED is achieved by HCS?
Do they have access to proprietary code made available by FDev or is this all constructed around 3rd-party tools?
It's just that, in OA's video, one of the characters says that the player will be "well paid" for this mission.
I can't help thinking that if a "sensible" mission like this can be created using only 3rd-party tools, what's to stop somebody from creating a mission where, say, the player gets paid a billion credits for successfully fuel-scooping or landing at a station?

I'm a little bit uncomfortable with the idea of a 3rd-party mod' providing a source of income exclusive to people who use it. [where is it]

Sorry to be "that guy". The voice-acting in the mod' is superb and I'd love it if ED was filled with this sort of stuff. [up]

I watched Obsidian Ant's video on this voice acted mission. It looks very cool, much better than the standard ED missions. You do need Horizons and an SRV to complete the mission.

I can't do it right now, but I look forward to doing it later.

VA is cheap. You should consider getting it. I use it, along with the HCS Obsidian Ant Voice Pack. I like it and use it for in-game commands often, like "request docking".

As far as I know, other than VA, it's all stuff HCS has developed in-house, probably in conjunction with the ED third party API. The Voice Pack works by issuing keyboard commands which control the game, just as if you pressed a button. The ability to read the game log is a huge increase in functionality. It should enable a lot more interactions with the Voice Packs.

I'm not sure how they manage payment. It's possible that you don't actually get paid in the end, which would be a disappointment, but if it's as interesting as it looks in the video, I'd still enjoy the experience.

Given the problems some players are having, it sounds like I'll be more successful if I wait until the "issues" are worked out anyway.

Until now, I've had no real use for VA. I don't really care to talk to my ship (buttons work great) but I wouldn't mind having different voice responses from the ship.

After checking the available list though, nothing really seemed appealing so I just bypassed the whole thing.

However, I do like this latest idea.

After watching OA's video, I went ahead and purchased VA and SBG. There is a bit of a learning curve but I can see the potential of this whole thing to fill a void.

Hm, that's what your manual said. You have two profiles, StandAlone and UseWithMyPack. The manual states:

import the “StandAlone” profile, and click “Done”. NOTE! If you’re using a HCS VoicePack AI, click “Edit” in your existing profile for the character you have, click “Import Commands” and import the “UseWithMyPack” VAP file

Now I understand that to mean either import the StandAlone profile as a new profile or go to the appropriate HCS Pack if you are using one and import the UseWithMyPack profile into this HCS pack. In neither of these two alternatives is the option to use the storybook-galaxy profile with an existing non-HCS pack.

So, given that this is what your instructions say, please tell me where I am wrong.

Part of the story mission is to go to Hutton Orbital... was this trip really necessary?

When you wanna stare at your screen for an hour and a half...

Yup, probably not the best move. Keep in mind this is a demo though : I hope HCS will listen to the feedback.

Ok if I'm going to Hutton I would like to know, is there a payout in the end? I could see it being designed into the story, ie, not credits directly but takes you on a trip where you are made to pick up high value cargo and gather lots of exploration data scans and the like, and as a biproduct of the storyline you end up making a substantial sum. Can anyone shed some light?

It's bad enough that they send you to Hutton Orbital and then after you get there, they say "To be continued"...

Nice...
