The horror that is VR with the Galaxy Map

how do u then choose a star? I can get the reticule to move around well with x52 throttle and stick; however, i cannot select a star system. Even if my view is right in front of the star, it will not select?

You need to have the grid on and then you can see where to select the stars. It takes a bit of getting used to.

I use the mouse as I did before VR with the exception of x/y movement. This I bind to the hat on the back of my throttle to lock a star. All works fine for me.

I use the mouse also. It's just right there next to my stick, it's still the best input for navigating menus in loadous screen, commodities, missions and maps. I think it works fine and feels natural.

The grid works like the ship radar, ie if the system has a line under it, you are below it, if its got a line above it, you are above it.

You can select the system as long as its "shadow" is visible on the grid your reticule is one, just move the reticule till it locks on the system x/z coordinates, select it and they you get the menu with the options you need.

I seem to move around in it just fine but selecting a star is troublesome. I can be right on top of it and maybe it doesn't ever register that my cursor is on it. This is why markers are so great. You can select those from the menu. Not any good for long distance, in-situ route adjustments but good for common routes.

I recently started using an Oculus and was generally managing OK in the Galaxy and System maps - except for selecting individual stars/planets/stations which I found to be very twitchy. I mostly use the mouse but also have HOTAS and rudder pedals set for pitch, roll and yaw. My main problem was that after typing in the system name and the map moving to it's location, I didn't always manage to click in the window to plot a route or look at the system map before it disappeared, and finding it again was nearly impossible. However, while playing around today, I noticed that if I pushed forward or pulled back my joystick to slightly alter the angle and get the semi-circle to show, the window would reappear and I was able to select it OK. This technique also worked in the system map, so that after moving the circle around the planet/station etc I only needed to push or pull the joystick slightly to lock on to the target in order to select it.

I don't know if this would work for everyone as I suppose it depends on particular setups, but hopefully it may help someone. :)

Indeed, this was the VR Galactic Map usability grail for me... basically to be able to "select" a system in VR GalMap, simply align your view above the galactic plane with hotas stick and the move the reticule around and over the system you wish to visit. it works very painlessly and now I can plot courses in seconds while in VR, bravo!
