Powerplay Is combat logging still possible?

Just interdicted an "enemy" ASP Explorer in Sol system. He had no chance and I got him where i wanted him. A few seconds of fire and he was down to around 23 % hull integrity. Distance was perhaps 500 m or less. Then, suddenly, he's gone without any message of his destruction or any sign of a wake or anything. He just vanished in front of me.

Surely this is combat logging? Should it be reported or what? I don't want to be an potato about losing a kill, but it is annoying if anyone uses this cowardly technique.

Yes, combat logging is possible in several ways.

If you quit to main menu, there's a 15 second timer that needs to run out. This does not count as abuse in FDev's eyes.

You can also force quit the client, which I do believe counts as abuse.

In this case, I would question the term 'cowardly' especially in term of technique. Yes there is the FDs accepted way of leaving the game and if they were leaving, then, one would hope that they did so this way. I would also hope that it was not simply a server or inter-web error, that caused the problem and yourself a little grief; as we can see by your own post.

You stated that: He had no chance and you had him where you wanted him. This tells me that you are either an excellent combat pilot; or you had a far better ship. So again; cowardly, is a little harsh: Don't you think?

If you get yourself in a position where logging is the only way out you either have a ship that's incapable of surviving until you can high wake and/or you seriously messed up at some point. In 1v1s at least. If you are not a complete newbie in a Sidey anymore getting blown up in such cases is usually on yourself really. There are a lot of fights one can just not win, leaving them by removing yourself from the game instead of attempting to flee is certainly not exactly the most applaudable choice.

Now FDev is obviously cool with their menu log mechanic, many/most people fighting in open won't agree with that assessment though. Killing the ED app or your network connection to avoid the log out timer is a shunned by FDev too, although it appears reporting such unsanctioned loggers often doesn't go anywhere.

I have never combat logged and lost a number of ships to players because of that; but at the same time. I only fly what I can afford to and where I can afford to. Having more than 10 re-buys, means I can fly in open all day and if I lose my ship; it is just a game, so no big deal. I have escaped a lot more then I been killed, but then I always try to fly fast ships; although in PvP the engineers have made that harder.

So what's the point of your ship combat game Frontier ?

When will Frontier bite the bullet and just BLOW UP ANY SHIP that looses connection if THAT ship has already opened fired on another ship first, then after receiving damage themselves, suddenly mysteriously looses connection, its the 21st Century , if your playing Elite dangerous, your not going to have 'connection' issues.

So in this example that ^^ship ^^ COMBAT LOGGING SHIP... BLOWS UP !

UNLESS !! if all these so called connection issues are because of Frontier poor net-code and the use of instances !

No off ship storage and Combat logging is still happening

Can the Adults please fix the game !

Suffer the little children ...and their pew-pews toys [where is it]

:D it's not quite as simple as that.

There are pew-pews, and real PVP players.

Then there are squeakers. Then you've got scrubs. After scrubs come lulzbunnies. Then there are cheaters, and then at the very bottom of the barrel are script kiddies.

Some real PVP players indulge in real PVP, at a high level of interaction and agreed consent to affect real PVP - where space pixels are the absolute least of concerns ;)

Until the karma system arrives and starts tracking trends there's no effective way to differentiate between combat logging and network issues. You could always find their name in the contacts log and block them.

I connect to the internet via WiFi, and the amount of times I suddenly lose my connection, is downright annoying, but it does happen, and it happens a lot more often than I like. So in this, the 21st Century, I still have connections issues, and they have nothing to do with the servers.

But.... I also get a lot of Matchmaking Errors with Elite: Dangerous, and it tends to happen when there are other commanders around, and the more commanders there are in the instance, the higher the chance of it happening.

My stance on Combat Logging - I don't agree with it at all, and I don't do it.

yes, you can log your actions during combat. just turn on the network logging option and look into your logs folder.

I've been disconnected from game several times. Fortunately only once when I was in combat with another player. 21st century internet is not the same everywhere and the p2p has its weirdness as well. It would be punishing a lot of players who have done nothing wrong in order to catch a minority of combat loggers.
It's annoying, but for now we just have to live with it.

Frontier don't seem to care about combat logging.

It's rife at the moment and seems to be more of a prevalent option amongst the players. Why people go into open and then log when attacked I do not know.

Frontier really have to show some strength here and do something about it. It is incredibly frustrating and damaging the game.
