That's some attempted walk back in that thread.

Not in SC we call them Orgs.
In ED they tend to be referred to as groups which is I guess self explanatory
They could be guilds I suppose if they were dedicated to one profession or skill. I like that I will suggest it.
One thing I do not like is that many orgs (guilds/corps/groups) want you to be exclusive to them. Its a bit early in the games development to be so selective so I suggest choosing an open org until you decide to commit when you see the actual game play.
Just reading that subreddit thread is just sad...People clinging on last straws. It is not a pretty sight.
Anyway I read last week maybe that Frontier had sold a small stake in their company to an outside conglomerate and that based on the share price and the size it valued the company at something like 250m dollars.
This is substantially more than the haul space citizen has bilked, even with the extremely aggressive money-grubbing and nickel and diming.
It goes to show that good honest work developing a game like normal people do, with the basics perfected first and then expanded upon leads to real and lasting success, and the good folks behind Elite Dangerous should be given a lot of props for what they've achieved.
There's good reason for that - and this is part of reason why SC crowd irks me. I have respect for people who enjoy being part of both communities, but SC community is full of gamers who have no clue how things work. For me making biggest space game is a marathon. Most prepared will most likely to win. Yes, FD ain't perfect, and they have some explaining to do about future of ED as they change from seasons model to something different, but overall they seem to be working toward specific goals and targets and are quite aware what they want to achieve. It might be not what 'walking around in space suit while pew pewing friends' crowd want right now, but FD goal is create unified game for everyone to play, not just for 'GTA V in space' crowd.
It is huge, it is complex, lot of things breaks on regular basis. But it is there as actual game. And there's good reason why it's like that - because people behind ED actually know what they are doing.
I think the back-analysis of this project will rumble on for some years to come. Maybe the disemination of "what went wrong". Maybe it could teach a whole semester of Project Management 101?
Oh my! After the post earlier today sifting through the 2015 thread to pick some cherries, I decided to take a look further back to before I started following the thread (v4).
Some of the opinions at around November 2014 make fabulous reading now, in a time-capsule sort of way. There is one specific very pro-SC guy (not naming and shaming) who cannot seem to understand the difference between what "is" and what "might be in the future" when describing the game.
This is so far back in time that 1500 was polite to people! (kinda kidding)
Amazing that back then SC's moddable private servers, including the much-vaunted and still for sale "modder's manual" were being pushed as a reason why SC would rise as the premier space game, the one that keeps its features and promises...

Edit: I wish the forum search would show all my past posts so I could jump to them.. sigh sadly not, it seems to just point what threads they are in and not what pages they are on.
Edit 2: I was looking for my prediction posts of what would happen, wanted to see how accurate I was LOL

For what it's worth - I have a new rig build that the customer will pick up tomorrow. Quite tasty!
Part of it's burn-in test will be Star Citizen, if anyone wants to join in the lulz![]()

You may have a job similar to the one that I resigned from 2 weeks ago.
Perhaps - but I do PC builds purely as a hobby - there's not many members of the general public who want to buy mainframe components
Star Citizen is actually quite a good test. It runs just as bad on an i3 as it does on a 32 core monster.
