60 million credits = 25% Pioneer?

So I very recently went on a wee jaunt along the Orion arm out to where it kind of peters out. I scanned about 500 systems and whatnot.

I was rather surprised, when I got back and sold the data, that the amount of credits gained (61 million) only equated to 25% of pioneer rank. Should I complete the requirements for elite rank, it will be necessary, it seems, to collect more than 340 million credits worth of data in total, including the 109 million credits gained before my trip.

Am I missing something, or have the requirements changed drastically in 2.3?

Just dinged Elite about an hour ago at 315m total profits in exploration. Pioneer to Elite is 1% for every 2 million (so 200m just for that band).

I sold 60 million credits of exploration data back in early 1.3 and ended up on the low end of Pioneer.

I've been exploring near Colonia and from my experience 20 mil + few bonuses so lets say 25mil is about 15% improvement in pioneer rank (Saw this on two trips once 44% -> 58% then 58% -> 72% )

Is that confirmed anywhere?

Yes 2 of my mates got Elite in exploration this week on the PS4, both have been grinding passenger missions out of Ceos, one has 12 million in exploration profit and the other has 20 million. I just got back from Sag A and have 75% Pioneer and 264 million in exploration profit. Slightly peeved, well okay a lot peeved, very much peeved in fact.

Which one of them is Jacques Cousteau? :D

i share your anger. BUT did they actually scan anything when travelling? if so its 0.1% less bad.

Should be the Ralph Cramden award for being a bus driver, or Capt Stubbing.

Take your pick, ones a scouser and the other from the medway

I honestly don't know if they were scanning but they were going from Ceos to Sothis and back again, one did the 5k trip for the engineer and scanned that.

They go to visit Sirius Atmospherics. There they scan the beacon which completes their missions. They then return to Ceos to claim the rewards and kick everyone off the ship, then they reload and go again. It's fairly easy to get a Beluga full of ~1m Cr cabins.

Yep they both had Beluga's, board swapped and doing about 10 million a trip, silent running on the way back until Allied and then hardly ever scanned after that, hell of a grind though.

Thats what Im doin atm cos its easier than hauling...pays better and its easier fer an explorer who has no choice but to grind fer a change. I use a DBE though cos its a lot faster than using the slug ^

I'm very happy they increased pay for exploration, but making a 30000ly trip mapping the galaxy less valued to the PF than someone doing round trips in the bubble is really annoying. It makes me think they don't really think it's fun, so they give other incentives for people to do it.

Yeah I feel (felt) the pain of doing it the right way too.

I was at 15-20% Pioneer (in 2.2) so I figured I would just finish that off right quick. So I loaded up a couple of long-range Explorer missions in the Orca and headed out.

First stop was out about 8k Ly towards Colonia way, sortof. Check.
Continued the trip to Jaques for a selfie and a T-shirt. Check.
On out past Colonia sortof towards Sag A* another 3-4k Ly for the second mission stop. Check.
Then since I was in the "neighborhood" I just finished the run to Sag A* for another selfie and to check that off the old bucket list. Check.

On the way home from Sag A* I went about 3k Ly laterally off of the logical shortest route home so as not to beat down the same path that presumably many others had taken, and then made the turn for a direct run to the bubble and mission payout.

Did I scan every system? No. Mostly just mapped systems with mainly gas giants and of course looked for water worlds and ELW's (I did find four ELW's including one ringed planet). It's funny how sometimes bloodshot eyes make a body "look" watery/cloudy but when you actually get there it's just a high metal content world. (rats!)

And of course I forgot to equip a DSS so I had to rely solely on an ADS for everything.

But I scanned my asp off and took my time instead of honk, scoop, jump. I spent almost the entire month of June on this run and was really proud of myself for making it all the way out and back because I'm not that big on the exploring thing. My hat is off to those Commanders who spend months on end out in the black. +Rep to you all!

So in the end do you know what I got for all of my efforts?

91% Pioneer.

91%.

It was quite the letdown let me tell you. But I got it done a few days later and received the Elite ranking message. That was a good day.

So does anyone know of a beacon I can shoot a couple of times that will boost me from 66% Dangerous all the way up to Elite? :D

LMAO!

no, this is the result of having the pilot federation ranks beeing gained by income you do in each profession.
and then making missions count to one of each profession.
and then implementing passenger missions, without adding a new federation rank.
naturally, the credit limit for exploration ranks was comparable LOW, but toursit passengers are paying high, and counting towards exploration = what we have today

It's not fun for most people. It's like watching paint dry and recording the phases of surface tension per second in a logbook for 3 weeks. Sure you can make a cool story out of it, but it's not nearly as fun as paintball.
