Thargoid ongoing narrative..... once its gone is it gone?

Hi

I am just wondering, if for what ever reason i did not play ED for 12 months, will all the content added over the next 12 months be left in the game somehow, or will it be stuff that, if you miss it you miss it?

for instance, (and no spoilers wanted or expected) hypothetically imagine if i never visit the thargoid base now, but in 12 months thargoids have become hostile, will that mean we wont be able to visit the base again without being attacked....

It would be a shame to miss out on hand crafted content just because i was not at the right place at the right time!.

Personally, I kinda like knowing that things are transient. Makes them more special when you do see them. Makes the world feel more alive.

Plus I'm sure there will always newer, more grand sights to see that replaces the ones that have faded away.

The way to do it and please (almost) everyone, is to leave a few of every hand crafted site "Inactive" or in whatever other stage of development, so you can if you want, go visit the old stuff.

The ruins mission for instance, they reduced the reward, but left the mission in, which is a good plan in my opinion, I still haven't been to an ancient ruin, glad they are still there.

Actually, only ever been to a barnacle, and a crashed alien ship, so yep, I hope I don't miss the other stuff myself.

Agreed. The Elite galaxy feels like a living, breathing, changing place. Stuff happens and history is made and left behind.

And it's not all on the developers either. I spent most of my first year in Elite doing exploration, but I missed the Distant Worlds Expedition. It's done and gone. I could still visit Beagle Point but it wouldn't be the same as the trailblazers who went during the pioneer days.

Hard to say with Thargoid sites. Those might translate into something else once the action gets going, and their current state will of course be gone, then. Or not. They could be static/dead Thargoid sites, and will remain.

I have taken the time to visit, and it was very worth while. The very best experience yet, IMO, in terms of sense of scale, wonder, and a good bit of trepidation for the future. I fully recommend getting out to a few sites now, if you can. Take an SRV/SLF if possible.

I think the Thargoids are nothing more than a sideshow or distraction, that will eventually see Humans and Thargoids fighting together to protect their corner of the galaxy from a much older threat that was once only narrowly defeated by the Thargoids when humanity was still living in caves and the concept of the wheel was still thousands of years off (hence why we know nothing of it in ED), but the Thargoids know what's coming, they have seen humanity flourish over meny millennia and expand beyond the bounds of Earth, so know that in the coming fight they could have allies which are at lest advanced enough for spaceflight beyond their own system and have a vested interest in "our" collective corner of the galaxy.

hence why Thargoids are being more overt and only retaliate if being attacked themselves, as they want to make more formal contact.


after all with 400 billion systems it should be easy enough to find systems no one playing ED has been near to, yet alone find planets in them systems to deposit this hidden ancient threat that's amassing.

I agree with your thoughts, it reminds me of being on a hospital bed being Administered intravenously a substance a drop at a time. Drip feeding they call it.

Hmm , its an interesting question mike and personally i like that the storyline can shape the galaxy although losing the work that someone created is a bit of a bummer for them and those who havent done it yet.

Lets see where the rabbit hole goes.

Interestingly enough, they decided to keep the Ruins mission in the game (even if they lowered the payout), so it seems that they are willing to keep at least this aspect of the story after it went deprecated. Which is a good thing IMHO.

Still, it seems that they did not entirely make their mind yet about letting things go or keeping them.
