My assumption would be that when 3.0 this may be possible. But not right now. Perhaps he is referring to "the other" game. But planetary landing has been possible for much longer than that. I was doing it on the Amiga.

Please, could you guide me step-by-step on exactly how to land my Freelancer on a planet.

Wait for 3.0
Play 3.0
Land ship on planet.

I'm not sure if the Freelancer will be flyable in 3.0 (I don't follow the game that closely) so you may need to add in a step of "Wait till your ship is implemented in the game".

Only moons in 3.0 if I'm not mistaken.

Okay, in that case spacelegs, atmo landings in ED and free cocaine have been a thing since 2012 too. You just have to wait and hope it happens. If that is what you mean with 'reasonable debate' I know a few other reasonable things too...

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
What's the difference.

I can't tell the difference between a boring lifeless planetoid and a boring lifeless moon in ED.
I doubt I'll be able to tell the difference between an interesting and life filled moon and an interesting and life filled planet in SC (if they are interesting and life filled, they certainly look more interesting and life filled in the videos).

Size doesn't matter (or so my girlfriend tells me).

Difference is that moons orbit a planet, should get things right as it's kind of important.

My condolences on your physical shortcomings. :D

I dont think anything orbits anything else in 3.0 yet. Those are details you just add later. ;)

Which of course is no issue at all when shuffling all those planets and every rock and tree on them around a huge 64bit map where everything exists at once, rather than linking a bunch of more rationally sized maps and translating/rotating them as required. It's totally the logical and obvious way to do it.

It does make you wonder though, with CIG claiming they have orbiting planets and moons etc (gamed up but that's ok) and that they can create or alter these rapidly as needed, that how they can then go on to mention independent day/night cycles and that significant POI's will be tweaked to show their best features off in optimal lighting conditions.

I'm not sure how they can have both.

Perhaps their planets rotate and orbit on a tilt that has their "significant poi's" constantly in certain light conditions?

That is because you are a hater who doesnt understand game development. :p

Weird, she told me the opposite.

I think someone doesn't know exactly what the difference between a planet and a moon is.

*scratches head* one of my posts just vanished before my eyes. Was it because it contained a link to RSI's shop? I'd email to ask, but I've not received any notification about it and none of my previous queries were answered.

Anyhow point is if you buy any of the pre-order ships there is VAT included, so it's a pre-order not a donation/charity/investment

Moderation, responses to posts that are moderated typically disappear as well to keep things clean. My particularly well thought out response to why the someone felt CIG should be commended for shifting focus to things people didn't back the project for was nonsense also vanished, a casualty of the nature of the thread.

No big deal, it can be written again.
