Engineers Material Rarity Symbols – Are they still valid?

I have been away unavoidably for a while and I’m just getting back to things. When I left Engineer materials that took cargo space were still a thing. Now, thankfully, that has changed. I am aware that the other change was to blueprints to accommodate this. Subsequently the rarity of data and materials has changed.

Question : The symbols that demote rarity next to data and materials; do these accurately reflect the current state of a resources rarity?

Hmm... yes... at least somewhat as it's depending on your luck with the rng. But in general materials with one "dot" are more common than the ones with 5 "dots" (or whatever you will call them...)

I think someone experienced with engineers could produce an accurate chart. It'd probably require 5 more icons with pips going up to 10 and the order wouldn't look anything like what 's implied by the current icons. ;)

so I'm feeling a no vibe from that response then.

Keep one commodity if you have them; Modular Terminals, and take them straight to Marco Qwent assuming you can.

As for Data/Materials- Engineers need Aberrant Shield Pattern Analysis (50), Decoded Emission Data (50), Classified Scan Databanks (50), Unknown Fragments (25 IIRC) to be unlocked and can be dropped off in shorter amounts to make room in your hold.

Everything else I cap myself at 20 for each thing because the low ones are needed too and have had times that I have 22 super-rares and 6 sulfur because every other engineer used my supply up. You're better off deciding what you want to get done and then getting the materials while also pickling other stuff up along the way. Use Inara's site to know what you need and/or take screenshots while at the engineer.

I only shared all this because I was you about 3 weeks ago except I just didn't want to play for a while because as the young kids say "the grind is real". Really glad I waited until commodities weren't needed and the other changes to unlock all of them.
