I don't have VR but I do use TrackIR and that, is pretty nice visually.
Chief
I have TrackIR as well and it is pretty awesome but I switch to VR a few weeks ago and it blows TrackIR away in my opinion.
With ease and by far. I played on a 55" TV before switching to VR... Never touched the game in 2.5 D ever again, after wearing the HMD once.

I spend a lot of time looking around the inside of the cockpit, and out the window in various directions. One of the first things I had to do was to turn off the "look at" for all of the UI panels. I have HOTAS buttons mapped to opening the panels, and greatly prefer it this way. The problem is that since I look around so much, those panels can get in the way, and they can steal focus from you're trying to do with the controls, particularly if you have various HOTAS buttons mapped for UI controls as well as in-flight controls.Turning off the look-at was one of the best things I did.
It was and is awesome, but Lone Echo takes immersion to a whole new level for me.
In the Oculus advert there's a moment where the player lifts up the headset with an amazed look and slowly exhales...whhhew.
That's where I had that moment.
It is still amazing every time I put on the Rift. Especially if I haven't played for a week or so.
First reactions were kinda like this...

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=PB9ZrBSNg_4[/] I was utterly amazed. I had high expectations that I'd been trying to rain in but it was better than I expected and I still get a wow from it now (I normally play only at weekends).
