Do you want the Thargoids to hit hard and be actually a threat to the Bubble?

It should hit reasonably hard and effect the bubble. It would also give some purpose to the other trades, mine for materials because we need resources at x to fight the invasion, we need food at Y for the evacuees, those evacuees need transport to Z etc. Everything should effect the outcome so everyone can play a role in keeping the bubble safe. Including things like stealth missions behind enemy lines etc and exploration missions to find places to go should we be forced into retreat.

And plenty of opportunity to show off effective war builds for those that love RNG.

Places should burn if we fail though. Basically like a giant CG.

You missed Pirates off your list.

And why does it have to be aliens that are nothing more than NPCs doing human things in human understandable ways?

Because aliens doing things in Alien ways that have no context and no noticeable immediate effect on the humans observing them are boring and uncompelling.

It came from outer space to just sit there and do uninteresting things that maybe have a tertiary impact on humanity!

I wouldn't mind complete destruction including all assets that had been left in destroyed stations, leaving us with whatever ship we were currently in, but that will never happen.
I believe there'd be a riot if Shinrarta Dezhra were destroyed.

Same, I can't see most players going for it though.

They could still destroy the stations but auto-transfer stored player ships away from the front, call it emergency evacuation comandeering.

Less than .00001% of the community is going to be down with the former, and the balance will opt for the latter. I pray that we don't just end up with alien CZ's, but we all know that's where this is going. I'll do a happy dance if I'm wrong, though.

Yes, this. I'm keeping my expectations pretty low, but I'd love to see everything burn. I want "...ghastly midnights of rotting creation, corpses of dead worlds with sores that were cities, charnel winds that brush the pallid stars and make them flicker low." (Lovecraft)

So in essence you don't want aliens, you want a human threat. An evil human organization at war with the rest of humanity.
It doesn't have to be aliens in your case. A lost human colony with a war crazy religious zealot dictatorship killing everybody not them would be completely enough. No aliens needed. ;)

Damn son, getting all Call of Cthulhu now? Yes indeed; bring on the Elder Gods in all their dark glory.

They had, indeed, come themselves from the stars, and brought Their images with Them. ;)

They are out there in the cold black distance between the stars. They are watching us...and they love us.

@metascrawl, do you read anything in the Lovecraft mythos that is more contemporary?

Guess we better update the ship computers to translate r'lyehian.....

I don't understand why some players want "Dark Souls in space" forced onto all players in a single patch.

What's wrong with it being optional? It being optional doesn't mean those who want "Dark Souls in space" won't get that. Just means they'll have to travel to it.

If people think random hyper-dictions on trader's Haulers & Type-6's is going to make for happy players, they're deluded. Strong word I know.

Forcing content on players rarely goes down well.

I did answer this in another thread but 'what's wrong with it being optional?' for me is that we're supposed to be talking about the return of an alien race, not a trip to a theme park. The entire fact of having to basically book an appointment to be 'terrorised' and fly off to a specific location to do it is risible.

As for the happiness of players who wouldn't like that, I'm past dressing this up I'm afraid - I care just as much about what they want as they do about what I want. Seems fair to me.

That happens all the time, sizable chunks of the community are always unhappy. It just might be your turn with this patch.

I'm unhappy with everything. Don't like Engineers, don't like multi-crew, disappointed by the sheer lack of proper exploration gameplay... So yeah.

This is where you tell me to play something else right?

"No."

Can't rep you again yet so I've gotta go with a virtual fist bump. I said something similar a page or so back but not as frankly.
