Most fun ship for each role? Getting away from the Anaconda for a bit!

Combat - turning and burning - FdL with MC's
Combat - turning and burning with FC off - Corvette - mix weaps.
Multi role - Python - brilliant.
Looking cool - Clipper
Fast - i-courier those engines with DD5. Fully kitted and armed 650m/s, shields 790 with res, 32LY jump, LW options xcpt shields and FSD.
Lulz - Gunship - MC's and scramblers
Expo - DBX

Combat: Nothing beat's an FDL in terms overall balance of firepower, handling, speed, and shield-tankiness.

Trading: Python, most cargo space on a medium pad.

Exploration: DiamondbackX. I like the 55ly+ jump range.

Mission running: iCourier. My current build has 400 shields with a full resist build, 725m/s top speed, 34ly jump range. 12ton of cargo space and still room for a fuel scoop and docking computer. You have to lightweight engineer everything, even weapons, for a build like this though.

Ships just cause they're fun: iEagle, DBS.

I disagree on the assesment of the dolphin, Saud Kruger ships look like space party-buses to me. Go with an Imperial ship if you want class.
And what is wrong with a "space party bus"? He clearly mentions "FUN" in the title. Party buses do tend to be fun although you Imps may have forgotten about that concept. As for style!! well Imp ships do look good..impractical but hey! Some people think the Asp looks "good". No accounting for taste I guess.

CZs/RES: Vulture
Trading: Python
Passengers: Dolphin
Exploration: DBX
Generic Mission Running: Python
Engineer MAT collecting: DBX
CG's: AspX or Conda.

Res, cz- fdl good maneuverability and high damage

Trading python best ship in game and can Land on medium pads

Passengers dolphin, they can land on small pads but can't carry many passengers

General use, diamond back explorer or python

Diamond back has better jump range and can land on planets with some cargo but python does everything better but can take a while to get somewhere

CZs/RES: FAS - you target me, I smile, you die. Simplez. But on days where I want to have fun and not just 'win', I use the DbS - with lots of HRPs - okay, not in any way the best, but so much fun to fly that I don't mind being blown up.

Trading: Python. Seriously is there another medium-pad answer....? (No there isn't!)

Passengers: Oddly I use my T-6 more often than my Dolphin.

Exploration: DbX - engineered for long range.

Generic Mission Running: Python. Again, really, is there any other (medium pad) choice?! Okay, when I want to grin like an idiot the entire time, I fly my Cobra III. Dammit, I'm even smiling as I write this!!!

CZs/RES: Vulture with 2 x plasma accelerators. If I need to explain how this is fun, there's no point in me explaining it
Trading: The stately and majestic Type 9. It's funny when the docking computer makes it boost into the station wall.
Passengers: I've just finished engineering my Orca. It has c6 first class, c5 first class and c5 business class cabins and jumps 39.78LY. Oh and it's black. A close second for local passenger missions is the Cobra Mk4, you can fit an absurd amount of people in it.
Exploration: That Orca - if I take the passenger cabins out I drop 80 tons, range goes up to about 47LY
Generic Mission Running: It's still the Python. Mine boosts at 455 and turns like a Cobra MK3, has military armour and 5 overcharged multicannons, carries 208 tons of cargo and an SRV and jumps around 27LY. That's fun right there because I can be completely spontaneous in what I choose to do without having to change ship.

Greetings, Commanders!

I've been using the Anaconda as a multi-purpose ship for quite some time now to do all types of missions/money running, and want to diversify my fleet. So, I thought it'd be fun to get your opinions on your favorite ship for each role, and a brief one-liner as to why you like it.

Format as follows for simplicity:

CZs/RES: Ship A
Trading: Ship B
Passengers: Ship C
Exploration: Ship D
Generic Mission Running: Ship E

P.S. - Medium landing pads preferred, as I don't even remember the last time I landed at an output :D haha

A. FDL - fast, agile, packs a punch
B. T9 (or the Python if I need access to medium pads) - I drive lorries for a living so I'm used to heavy slow vehicles. T9 is sadly much maligned in this game. It's a man's ship ;)
C. Beluga - just 'cause it looks cool and is surprisingly agile for its size
D. Asp Explorer - great all round vision out the cockpit and jumps over 50ly after engineering.
E. Python - the most useful and versatile ship in the game IMHO

I have a chrome Cobra III too but I just keep it for nostalgia now.
I've never owned an Anaconda but I think I'll kit one out for mining soon. I have another Asp Explorer kitted out for mining but it doesn't get much use.
I don't have the ranks for a Cutter or a Corvette and I'm in no great rush to work for the Feds or the Imps to get them.

To go from System A to system Z: Engineered ASPx.
Everything else: Engineered and partially tanked Python.

And mode style makes a difference. FDLs seem popular. Engineered ones flown by cmdrs may be very powerful. Ones flown by NPCs dont stand a chance against a strong Python.
EG: last night, attacked by an ASPx and three FDLs. Admittedly one at a time, and I didn't even lose one ring of shield. (Which is good considering my shields take a year and a half to recover)
As an addendum: High level NPCs carry fighters and have some engineered shooty things. (Fifteen rockets at a time?) (Red bullets?)

Now, if I could only get the python to turn like the ASPx. (dream on)

CZs/RES: Fer-de-Lance - Easily my favorite ship, and downright evil in PvE combat.
Trading: Python - Tough and capable of carrying tons of stuff and able to defend said stuff.
Passengers: Orca - Much easier to fly than the bulky Beluga and can carry more people than the Dolphin.
Exploration: Asp Explorer - Huge jump range, great view, and ample internals.
Generic Mission Running: Cobra Mk. III - Easy to fly and land, fast, versatile, looks cool.

I've been taking a break from my Anaconda for a while now. Partly because I've got a Cutter and Corvette that need breaking in, but also because I wanted to fly my older ships a bit. Spent the last two days dragging my Vulture out of mothballs.

... I'm not doing it right... :p

Im tempted to ask how you hit anything with 5 overcharged MC's! I have a huge fixed one on an FDL and it jitters like crazy. Also at the risk of turning this into an engineering swap shop, which mid got you to 455 boost? Is it DD5? If so, how is the heat?
I use a very lightweight cold build Python for Piracy and evasion but would like more speed, can't shave any more weight if anything so I think I'm going to have to switch up to Dirty drives. Currently topping out at a shade over 400

For shame, the 5 x multis on the Python are gimbals :D I am thinking of sticking something fixed in the centreline class 3 slot though, probably plasma. And yeah the thrusters are DD5s, as long as I don't boost upside down above a planet or something heat is fine. Bearing in mind that mine has military armour on it, your lightweight build should be like a rocket with them and if it's a cold build to begin with the heat increase from DD5s really isn't going to be a major deal for you. If you do it, all I can say is that you will be amazed at how a Python handles with even a decent roll of DD5s.

That's awesome! Takes a lot of skill and patience to fly that ship in a hazres. The engine sounds too

Thanks! It's always good fun to take the War-Whale out for a spin. The handling is so nice (there's a few good tight rock maneuvers in here), it doesn't feel like a large ship at all. The sound, the feel, and the style all make for a great fun experience.

I'm a bit of a hoarder and never sell anything so my fleet is setup like this;

CZs/RES: Vulture - Because it's just a thug of a ship
Trading: Python - Because Python
Passengers: Clipper - Because I couldn't think of anything else to use it for after I bought it
Exploration: DBX - Because 55LY Jump range.
Generic Mission Running: Asp X - Because it's just so damn versatile
Smuggling: Cobra MKIII - Because in Black Friday paint it looks like it should be a smuggler

And my personal toy: Lightweight Courier with enhanced thrusters - Because it's just sooooo much fun to fly
