Hull repair limpets: has sense been pre-applied?

This was something you could do in the X3 series games. It was enormously tedious though.

BUT! It would definitely NOT interfere with combat situations as the OP was afraid of ;-)

Anyway... I think, if done right, it could be a lot of fun dont you think? Even better fun, If your NPC crew could help you with the task and player - as their COMMANDER - would issue orders and help himself if he wanted to...

Have you ever played the game called BATTLEZONE? I really liked it, specially the interface for issuing orders to your NPC teammembers was fantastic...

Whaaat? this tatic will only work if you are using a small ship (Yey another small ship buff again!!)

Big/Medium Ships at 90% of the time don't blow up because of hull damage, they blow because module damage (poweplant damage in 90% of the situations).

Oh wait, you are Elite ranked, so you should do know about that!

Fuel rats new service.... repair rats!
Morning Sir, quite a bump you have there.

My name is Carl and I'll be your Repair Rats™ accident repair coordinator today. Now, if you wouldn't mind filling getting stuck into these forms as we chat, this one in triplicate please, I'll fill you in on the whole process. We'll start getting the paperwork out of the way. Once the info is entered into the system, we'll sign off on an estimate and get that over to the adjusters. Seven to ten days later, he'll cut an authorization for the body work and we'll get you an appointment with one of our highly trained authorized limpet repair technicians. You'll need alternative transport during that time, but if interested my brother-in-law can set you up with a Viper MK III rental for a few days. It's not much, but it's better than holding your breath in vacuum.

Now, you said when you called us that you hit an asteroid, so that will be under your comprehensive plan with a 10,000 credit deductible... There's no need to use that sort of language, sir. That's the policy you took with us. Comprehensive coverage is subject to a 10,000 credit deductible. Now, as I was saying, once the adjuster gives the thumb-up, we'll get a ship with repair limpets here in just one or two days. Normally, the lads would be quicker, but a lot of them are out supporting the Buckyball Racers, we're official sponsors, you understand. Then once the technician is on-site, there's just the final invoice for the limpets used, mileage for the repair vehicle, oh and the fuel surcharge, of course. You'll be glad to hear that tips are discouraged.

I haven't played Battlezone, but will check it out.
The hull repair limpets sound like a nice thing for explorers, but for combat players I think they need to put one or more limits like having to turn off shields and /or weapons for it to work. That way if someone tries to run away from a fight and repair hull they make themselves vulnerable to being pounded into dust while they repair.

*chuckles*

I think you're missing one huge thing you might do with these. Use them on your victim!

Knock out their drive, shields, FSD, weapons, whatever. When their hull gets low, you repair them, then resume carefully knocking out subsystems.

Imagine the opportunity for hilarity, if hull could go up while modules went down. You could have people dead in the water, all modules smashed, yet at 100% hull. Repeat the process every time they reboot/repair.

OP this is very easily solved with 2 steps:

1) Make hull repair limpet controllers sufficiently heavy, so they are balanced against speed/jump range.
2) If you're currently taking hull damage, then any deployed limpets will be quickly destroyed by proximity damage.

Done. Fixed.

That's just evil. I think I'll play solo from now on.
Oh wait, I already do.

Limpets are limpets so making specific repair ones that are different from the rest (and can't be used for anything else) probably won't fly.

Just make repair limpets unusable unless shields are down with both repair and target ship are motionless.

I need fast ship to scan surfaces for things, Anaconda will simply not do, plus I like Asp so much better for photos, but that is probably topic for another discussion :)

One hopes that, as part of the post-2.4 core gameplay overhauls, improvements to ships to help them better fit with the name in their titles will also occur....kind of like how military ships got extra slots for module reinforcement.....that kind of thing.

This is was explorers has been waiting for...so we can repair hulls in the black without the need to jump back.

I would say for hull repairs, it should shutdown all systems except for crucial systems while repairing.
reasons please? also what about full canopy replacement? would you need spare canopy glass slabs stored in hold, which limpets can reform?

we will be able to create limpets from synthesis,
and also wie a hand full of materials, you can refill several tons of C4 cannon ammo (there is another topic where someone calculated how much that isd)

with the glass of the canopy - its already a wonder why we can't have the same forcefield saving us from space, that is keeping the air preassure up in starports
