Best ship for pvp

Probably go with Long Range on the rails and make one a penetrator. For secondary effect you want heat reduction which can go up to 50% (30% is good), but you have to do a lot of rolls. Doing it at grade 4 isn't that bad. Grade 5 if you are a masochist.
I thought two size2 cascade rails was needed in PVP to shut down the banks...is one enough?

I could be getting ahead of myself here, because I'm just starting to PVP but I believe 2 shots from a medium rail gun is enough to negate the banks. When your opponent is banking, you will/should have enough time to get off two shots from the one rail most of the time.

That way your other rail doesn't suffer the 20% damage \ breach reduction and is super effective at sniping modules once their shields go down.

If you were sticking 2 small rails on an corvette or anaconda it might make sense for both to be cascade.

But don't the resistance ignoring plasma make resistance kinda moot? Or is that not an issue?

You'll be getting shot at with a lot of things that aren't plasmas.

plasmas ignore resistance ?The only plasma weapons are the plasma repeaters on fighters and srvs, and the accelerators which all count as thermal and kinetic so they should be blocked with the resistance

I know this question would of been asked alot but what would you guys say the best ship for PvP is I'm going to start playing open more and try my hand at pvp

None. PvP is not allowed anymore. Since FDev have endorsed the Block feature for any reason (anything a player considers griefing is fine with FDev, Block away says Sandro!!) Combat Logging, massive Private Groups that create a de facto "safe space" Open, "separate but equal" game modes (PvE actions of Solo and PG players affect Open world universe), etc., it's clear PvP is a worthless endeavor in this game. Don't waste your time. Play PUBG like everyone else who wants real PvP gameplay.

Resistances also help against the non-absolute damage portion of plasma, which is still appreciable.

60% of all plasma damage is absolute/untyped damage that ignores damage type resistances.

I own every ship in the game and money is no object it's more that I don't want to get my handed to me every 5 minutes lol

Greetings,

If you own every ship in the game then you are a ship collector. I am as well. But you probably didn't spend enough time with them to see their strengths and weaknesses, which weapons work best for them and most importantly pushing your combat skills to the envelope with each of them. Per Open play combat it is about four issues. (1) Excellent combat skills, advanced weapons selection (we're not dealing with basic lasers and multi-cannons everyone starts out with) and flight maneuver experience especially with FAS off learned over time. (2) Another two months understanding the engineering capabilities of the weapons, what works best for the moment and your defensive response when hit by them. (3) Which ship to use in Open play combat as no one ship covers every engagement. (4) LOTS of rebuys when more experienced players take you out while you are coming up to speed.

If a player is not up to speed with excellent combat skills then yes a Fer de Lance will offset this lack of skill which is why it is so popular. Others who have excellent combat skills and prefer the FDL for their playing style will easily take you out no matter that ship you fly.

Per the big three it is not about better weapons placement on an Anaconda, more maneuverability on a Corvette, or mass lock, speed and great shields on a Cutter. It is about combat experience and using the right ship for the engagement. You decide.

Regards

1st things 1st: Be sure to video all your wins so you can post them here. Use a voice altering software so you sound evil, and then proclaim whichever system to be yours and yours alone. You'll have as much practice as you want after that.

Probably the FDL, but the main three would be FDL, FAS, and Clipper.

Small ships like the Viper or DBS are ok, but you will die a lot and quick. I'd avoid the Cutter, Corvette or Anaconda. Properly built you most likely will not die, but those ships attract a lot of attention.

GCI has a couple helpful docs:

Joining a PVP discord for advice is a good idea. I'm in GCI, but Galactic Academy is probably good as well.

Also flying in a wing is also a good idea. If you are by yourself you will get combat with wings.

IMO the clipper isn't too good

Umm, you can find plenty of PvP by accident or on purpose in places like the founders world or a CG (especially the ones in the bubble)

I'm about to build a PVP FDL, could you give me your thoughts on this? I was thinking of doing 6 heavy boosters, reinforced prismatic shield, thermal reactive armor, two sturdy feedback cascade rails (size 2) and 3 efficient plasma Accelerators - two with target lock breaker and one dispersal (the size4). Is that a good general purpose PVP FDL? Only issue is it seems a build this heavy takes away about 30 m/s speed, and needs a ton of power so it might run hot...

Sorry man, was enjoying my weekend in peace ;)

First and foremost, putting a build forwards in https://coriolis.edcd.io/, even without modifications shown, makes intention a lot clearer.

a) full shield booster setups are far less reliable than in PvE. Especially with all that heat I might recommend a heat sink or two, and chaff isn't to be underestimated. Experienced users of gimbals are often your true foe.

b) If employing SCBs or expecting shields to come up again after being dropped, use resistance augmented boosters too

c) Two PAs don't really need target lock breaker if on the same fire group. You could however run dazzle shell, which also has no drawback.

d) It's not "general purpose". 3PAs/2 rails is definitely a David ship....built to slay goliaths. Take a triple PA against another FDL, or something even smaller, and you're gonna spend 50% of your game firing rails at them and the other 50% wondering what happens to plasma projectiles that fly off into the void. Do they dissipate? Do they fall into black holes? Do they travel on forever, potentially into another galaxy, and billions of years later come crashing down onto a planet, vapourising the single cell that had started the journey to evolution? Great job, you could have just terminated another galaxy's future sentient life.

*ahem*

e) Please make sure you load some hull reinforcement onto that.

This question depends on what you deem as "best."

For the last several weeks I have participated in the CGs in Open and had many PvP encounters. I have killed many ships from Sidey's to a Vette in PvP, however, I have never killed any CMDR/ship that only fires a quick burst and then runs the hell away at mach 11teen, because they can! Does this game-play style make that ship the best, or does that make for lame PvP game play?

No matter what anyone thinks, the best ship is the one you have the most fun with. That also goes without saying as being the ship you can afford to replace if you should lose a fight.

And for those blaggards on here who doubt my 2 penneth, I will see you around this week's CG. I will be in the big blue Vette kicking some - including those lame pilots who fly in a Wing of Clippers and Conda's and you know who you are!

Enjoy buying and building the ship you get the most fun from.

Cheers CMIV

Planning to Build a pvp vulture, have 200mio cr but only Access to farseer.
Can you Propose a Built that wont blow Up too quick?

Bring a well-engineered Python to PvP. Know its strengths, but most importantly its weaknesses. Practise often in PvE. Build its shields. Engineer its engines to a perfectly reasonable G5 345 cruise and 450+ boost. Work on the weapons, hull, shield resistances. Utilise those great hardpoints.

Don't be an FDL, FAS, Vulture, Clipper sheep.

Make the Python great again!

You know you have it in you to do so.

Carry on, Commander.
