Therefore any errors, omissions, mistakes or lies are entirely the fault of Obsidian Ant and the forum, and therefore not mine. Opinions are mine of course, and as such are completely correct and not open to interpretation, re-reading, translation nor argument of any kind. What I say goes, or something. Any problems caused by reading my posts, such as high blood pressure, salty tears, hatred of carebears or a desire to report posts and/or complain are completely your own problem and if you think you may be affected, please stop reading now. I am, and will not be held responsible for anything I say, write, do or think. All names have been guessed at to protect the innocent, guilty or downright odd. It's not my fault if Ziggy reads my posts now is it? All other standard terms, conditions and disclaimers of liability also apply... unless I don't want them to.

OK well yes, I'd like to run through this and probably will next week. It's a pain using VA when my partner is around (since it seems to be able to pick up her voice from 4 miles away and interpret anything she says as "target ahead", which is only slightly weirder than it interpreting traffic outside as "lights on", which I never understood. I usually have to speak loudly and slowly even when the mic is in front of me...) Anywho... As I said upthread I lost immersion when the narrator said she was turning my ships comm logging off... If some rando can do that remotely, then how come all pirates don't?

So anyway the point of this post. Does it warn you at the beginning about what you need? I.e. A small or medium ship with an SRV &c.? It'd be a right pain in the proverbial to suddenly get to the bit where you nee to go to Hutton if you're trucking along in an Anaconda or Type 9. Just some thoughts there. I don't know as yet if there's any named equipment you might need so...

Otherwise, I'll add more when I've done it and am in more of a position to comment. Fly safe out there commanders, and make sure your Friendship Drives are fully charged before you jump in and comment.

Buh bye for now.

That's one heck of a disclaimer. :p

In the manual (a pdf manual is provided with the download it explains the prerequisites). A smaller ship is required and we do mention that :).

Interesting post, thanks Siobhan, +rep

Wow, that's a fat disclaimer : what about a TL : DR next time ? ;)

So true, this made me chuckle :D

Immersion is utterly and ultimately subjective : the in game insurance system is far more unbelievable than an overpowered hacker in my book for instance. The simple FTL travel doesn't male much sense either. But as I said, to each his own.

Does it warn you at the beginning about what you need? I.e. A small or medium ship with an SRV &c.?

Yes it does : the manual is short but pretty complete. Which didn't help me from having tremendous problems to make the SBG work with existing profiles. HCS said there're working on it though.

As for this demo, I'd say it is at an early stage of development, a proof of concept if you like. I'd suggest not to expect much more (is that even proper english ?) or you'll probably end up disappointed.

Thanks, I think that is all I need. More once I've played it... In a courier.

Just installed this and can't wait to try it out!

Edit:

Ok, so I finished this up last night.

Overall I was very impressed! As a proof of concept for interactive storytelling it was superb. I really enjoyed the narrative bits with the background music and its use of the journal/log system was (to me) the most impressive use of that by any third party to date.

The Hutton run was brutal, as others have said. I didn't appreciate being forced into that. To me that was this demos' biggest flaw, as it really killed some goodwill I was feeling in the middle towards the whole thing.

That said, I really was very happy with the experience. This is something I would certainly pay money for in the future should HCS decide to continue along these lines.

Finally found the time to try this and complete it over the last two game sessions.

For me, this is what missions should be like. Really enjoyed it and look forward to doing more like it. Doing the Hutton run in VR was an interesting challenge though!

Well done HCS

You know, I understand that you do not know that my day job is as a computer programmer, but it gets really old when people advise me of the obvious, especially when I said in my post that it was installed. The installation was not quite as per the manual since the second file that needed to be installed was not there. It was, in fact called something else.

Suffice it to say that the plugin was successfully installed and initialised in VoiceAttack but it appears that it cannot be accessed from within a VA script.

Like I said, I have a huge set of VA scripts written as well as having EDDI installed and I also have a startup script as well.

Now, out of the box this new profile does not work and it is probably something to do with the correct start up script not running in the HCS pack, but since I do not know which script should be running on start up, the manual is completely lacking in this regard, I cannot call the correct script in my own start up script.

You see, the publishers of this interesting story seem to have assumed that either I have no scripts or profile in VA or that I am using one of their voice pack profiles. The result is that their system does not install correctly and therefore does not work.

Yet.

I'm sure we'll get it sorted eventually.

Ive had issues , running EDDI & HCS Plugin .. well some think there's a conflict

Just finished this last night, and I was really impressed with both the concept and execution of the demo. It definitely adds hugely to game immersion, even without any tangible mission rewards. This is what actual game multi-part missions should be like!
Voice acting and effects were top-notch and I enjoyed being part of the story. Can't wait for more of this!
Everything worked well after some initial glitches due to me running the wrong profile (I was using ASTRA 2.0 instead of 2.4). I could have done without starting the long trip to Hutton at 10pm last night, but at least it's made me visit the place where I hadn't previously been motivated to. Plus I now have some mugs in the hold!
There was some repetition of commands and some overlap/repeating of other audio content on the way out there, but other than that I thought the whole adventure was a fantastic addition to the game. Frontier should definitely pick this up and start incorporating similar content into the main game.
Well done HCS - I'm really looking forward to more of this.

It turned out to be that you need to import the standalone profile into a copy of your normal profile and either set the startup script to "{{Profile initialisation}}" or include a call to this script in your own startup script if you have one. I've asked the producers to add this to their installation instructions.

Using a copy of your normal profile allows you to return to it once you have completed the story and not have the now redundant HCS stuff cluttering up your profile. Mine is cluttered enough already.
