Barely back in the saddle (seat) a week and idiots strike

So, I hadn't been back into this big ol universe for months until about a week ago, and I decided to play on PC instead of Xbox One for a change.

I also decided to play mostly in open and was building myself a pretty sweet Asp Explorer to spend a bit of time exploring. No sooner had I grabbed a couple of meta-alloys to boost my FSD when a couple of goons in anacondas decide to repeatedly interdict me. One even reassured me they weren't going to attack me.

They may have been telling the truth because they didn't even manage to scratch me either time but why do other players insist on completely ruining the experience for others? I am flying a completely defenceless (albeit fast and manouverable) ASP X, was carrying no cargo and was purely looking to upgrade my FSD. In simple terms, I am of no interest to anyone in my current state.

As I said, barely a week back and I'll be steering clear of open from now on.. moan, moan, moan.

No disrespect intended here, but I'm not sure who is the 'idiot' in this case.

If I were to choose to drive through a part of town where the gangbangers hang out, and then complain about getting accosted by said gangbangers, I would consider myself the idiot for even going there in the first place, and even worse, showing up unarmed.

I've said it before, but if the playing field (Open) were more evenly balanced, e.g., no engineers/module enhancements, then I might consider playing in Open even though I would likely derive no fun or benefit from it. If however, FD would rub a couple of brain cells together and rebalance the game between hard-core and casual players, AND add some incentive in Open not found in the other modes I would give it (playing in Open) more serious consideration. And who knows, but maybe others might as well.

But as long as the game continues to be so imbalanced towards the hardcore players, there will be many who simply choose to not engage in that nonsense. Including me. :)

If there's gangbangers in your town you should do something about it.

At the expense of the Blocker. No harm, no foul. The block has no effect on the not-blocked so instances without blocked players are available. You just see different players, not none at all. The Friends list does more to affect instancing than the Block list does.

By the way, blocking HoBro's doesn't come anywhere near creating Solo play in open. From what I hear, there aren't that many HoBro's out there to make much of a difference. Right? They are as rare as hens teeth, so blocking them will have a very low effect on anyone's experience, except the Blocker's. Working as intended.

i think this is where it starts to effect others also , if for the sake of argument im in a relatively low pop area of space and theres 4 ships within 1 instance and no other instances, if 1 player has blocked you then you will not connect to that instance and never connect with the 3 players who havent blocked you. the blocked player will simply load into an empty instance? .. hypothetical of course but isnt this how it would work? from what ive read on it.

the general consensus would be to close the curtains and stick fingers in the ear than take other action.

I don't think the issue here is of perception of either the practicalities or the numbers, I've got a mere ten people on my block-list yet am regularly getting accused of breaking the game of trying to kill open or orchestrating an anti PVP conspiracy or something similarly hilarious.

The problem is one of principal, some players simply can't accept that others are allowed to decide how they play and who they play with. Nobody really objects to how block works, they object to it's existence in exactly the same way some can't accept solo and group.

That's pretty much the opposite of how it works. If you are the blocked player nothing happens, you enter and leave whatever instances no matter who is there. The blocking player however is very unlikely to enter an instance that already has the blocked player in it.

It's just the blocker whose instancing is effected.

Ah ok , if that is indeed how it works then no worries. clears that up.

You've just reasserted my point. The Block keeps the Blocker from instancing with the Blocked, which means not instancing with any other players in his instance at the same time. Including non-aggressive players.

Also, in the same Sandro's reply you've mentioned, we can perceive how weakly thought out the Block is. Wings overcome the Block powers, so if you Block me, I just have to wing up with Stig, and Block is rendered ineffective. If it works as he said.

Can you try a bit harder? It might become funny at some point.

Name calling is bad m'kay, but I do seem to recall that PVP'ers are not very shy about calling everyone else names such as cowards, carebears and special snowflakes.

But then I would say that I'm in league with FDEV and the mods.

Sure, I understand the auto rebuttal, I just think it's terribly lopsided. If I wanted to spend the day gleaning the forum looking for quotes to prove my point I'm guessing the PvE name calling comments are going to outweigh the name calling by the PvPers 50-1.

I'd go with 50-50 to be honest. Carebear and psycho both get 13 pages of forum search results.

Again with the prejudice and labeling of people based on their in-game actions . This community sometimes makes me really sad.

To be fair both sides are guilty of calling each various names, prejudice and labeling of people based on their in game actions. No one is better than the other no play style or mode is better than the other. We are all meant to be playing the game our way, so as a whole the community is at fault not just one part of it.

As the saying goes two wrongs dont make a right.

Related to the "exchange" above, do you (whoever is reading this) feel that being part of this forum is a necessity to get the maximum enjoyment from the game Elite Dangerous?

In some ways yes, there's a lot of good advice and handy tips tucked away in the dark recesses of the forum. I'm still learning new things about the game all the time. You do have to sift though all the regular gubbins to get to it though.

It's like a newspaper most of it's unmitigated biased drivel, but there's definitely some stuff worth knowing and not a little comedy in there.

Hey Ducks! Definitely not. It probably will just take away some of the enchantment we get with the game at first. The drama is interesting tho

Well said!!

That's completely nonsense. What I do in game has nothing to do with my real life. Think twice before taking ad hominem the destruction of spacepixels .

Edit: where are the mods that don't see all these personal attacks (

In solo, mostly.

EDIT: I'm kidding I'm kidding.
