Engineers CIF Farming Guide

Yes, do the four known M6H bases. They have the highest possible drop rate of about 75%... Look at the map.

I've been trying for hours, and I still can't do it. Part of the problem is the wrong map links in DeZpe's list (v3.2). All M6H map are linked to M3M instead. But it looks like his older version (v2.1) Uses the correct link.

I absolutely hate the G5 upgrade structure. Not fun in the slightest. But it's a necessary evil that I must inflict on myself if I am to make progress in various upgrades.

Looks like I'll just have to settle for medium security settlements for now.

EDIT: CIF, by itself, isn't very useful without Exquisite Focus Crystal (EFC). I've flown 1000+ missions, but I have yet to see a mission that offers EFC as a reward. Is there a trick to finding them?

This is the correct map for the four known M6H's ...

... and my tried and tested, trusted, Truesilver's Top Tip, method is as follows ...

A. 4 pips to Eng, 2 to Sys. Start with the data point at the bottom right (like, south east) position. Scan without trespass.

B. Now drive quickly to the data point by the huge 'radar observatory thing' at the bottom left position (DJA's starting point). There is time pressure here but no trespass. If you trespass just edge back out. Keep trying until you have both - you'll get faster and this puts all the time pressure at the start of the run.

C. Now drive as fast as possible straight north as per DJA's map. Don't get airborne, just get through to the other side, cancelling the trespass.

D. Scan the next two points without trespass as per DJA's map. There is some time pressure again now but not as bad as between A and B.

E. Don't go in for the central point as per DJA's map. Instead go and do the one on the far right (east) position, because it's far less 'fiddly'. You'll trespass a lot but you won't get wanted because ...

F. After scanning this point race directly south, (close to where you started), cancelling the trespass.

G. Now turn around and, with all the time in the world, put 4 pips to Sys, go in and find the final central point, get destroyed if necessary / if you wish.

My route as above is not as quick or elegant as DJA's but it just works.

I hope this helps!

Be allied with the factions in a system and obviously it helps if the faction and system are in boom just because they will likely be offering more missions to begin with. Other than that, I'm not aware of any.

I put on the last 35% of my Empire rank from marquis to duke at the weekend in HIP 10716 and Wu Guinagi. During that time I've picked up 11 EFCs and about 15 CIF from missions. Bear in mind here that I wasn't even looking for them specifically, I was taking every mission that offered ++ ranking and leaving any +ranking ones, there were more EFC and CIF there for the taking. Also I wasn't even running missions for the non-Empire factions there whom I'm also allied with and whom also had missions offering them.

Now I know it's all RNG but I am seeing both EFCs and CIF fairly regularly on mission boards where I have good standing in the system. If you're checking a system, finding none and moving on to another one, try actually building up your rep to allied with at least 2-3 factions in a system and seeing how the boards look then.

There are very few things for engineering that I would ever advocate trying to get from missions, usually the mission boards are just too random for my tastes but with the mission board being the only place you can get EFCs, they do seem to be appearing quite regularly now.

Thank you for the response, everyone. I will try to raise the faction rep further with the locals in HIP 10716 & Wu Guinagi and see if that makes the difference.

Btw, I finally mastered the M6H speed-run after 4 additional hours of continuous practice. It felt so good!
..but S4H on the other hand, it just makes me want to cry. VERY difficult to dart in & out of the trespass zone especially in a low g environment where traction is very poor. I've been at S4H for nearly 6 hours now, and still unable to complete it. I'll give it a few more hours before I give up on S4H. Giving up isn't in my nature, but S4H settlements are just absurdly difficult.
