Rift Sale Extended 'A Few Weeks' $399

Just a tip for anybody thinking about ordering. I ordered one direct from Oculus on the 19th July and was still waiting for the order to be processed due to stock shortages on the 31st July. At that point I ordered one from scan computers and it was despatched on the 4th August while my order with Oculus was still awaiting stock. It seems 3rd party distributors take precedence when it comes to restocking. Just FYI.

They say it's on stock at amazon UK.

Wonder how well do they work with a normal set of cans. Are those ear pieces removable? Never really been a fan of that on ear style of earphone.

Ear pieces are removable but the headstrap is fairly close to your ears so if you have "over-ear" headphones they may not be that comfy with the rift. Also they may not be that solid and start slipping off with intense looking around...

Personally I also prefer over-ear rather than on-ear and have G930 wireless ones. Didn't work too well together with the OR unfortunately. I did find the on-ear surprisingly good though despite my dislike for them. I do know Oculus sell some ear bud type things that fit the same connector as the on-ear, don't know how those are.

Hmm.. Good to know.

Might just have to adjust to the on-ear type eventually. I can't wear ear buds, they cause a ridiculous amount of discomfort and pain, unfortunately. :(

Just unfortunate that the Rift sale coincides with a period of really high graphics card prices!

I can justify picking up the rift, it's a bargain. But I don't want to pay over the odds for a graphics card and one is kind of useless without the other :D

what GPU do you have now? I have a GTX970 and VR works wonderfully, you dont always have to upgrade GPU with VR, the initial worry about that was set aside when both Oculus & HTC came up with technologies to help VR work on lower end GPUs. So if someone says "you need a latest GPU to work with VR" they're talking out their backsides!

Makes sense. I ordered from oculus on the 19th as well and a few days back cancelled and ordered from Amazon UK. I had it in a few days.

I'm still on a GTX770. It's a nice little graphics card, but starting to struggle now I've gone up to a QHD monitor. Definitely time for an upgrade, but the 1070 I've got my eye on has gone up in price during the year!

A GTX 1060 or RX580 will be okay for VR. It won't give you the best performace, but they are not bad though. Or possibly wait for a Vega 56 which is on par with a 1070 and possibly cheaper. It does sip a lot of power, so best check your power supply is up to speed if you go for a Vega.

Thanks for the tip. I've been on NVidia for years now, but worth considering other options :D
