About the Ancient Ruins, with added austerity....

So you can't be bothered to work it out for yourself, and you won't follow one of the guides that tells you exactly what to do: probably isn't for you then [up]

Huh?

I would happily work it out, if there was any working out to do.

Trying every combination of something, isn't working anything out though...

I'm fine following a guide!

not sure where you got that from, I do plan to at some point do at least a few scans, doubt I'll run through the whole thing, seems like a lot to me, and I guess I'll see for myself if I find them engaging enough to run the entire lot.

I'm just saying, it'd be cooler if there was some logical sequence of events to follow, hinted at in game, as opposed to a brute force try every combination until it works method for working it out.

To me, the only thing that makes sense for it to be a brute force method to work it out, is if these sites are some way religious (as, how would it make any sense to anyone who doesn't know about holding up the urn and the casket to the third obelisk on the.....etc, whereas, to someone who does know the traditions, this would be obvious. Wine/bread/crosses/candles?????)

Now that's probably not the case, but if it was, there could have been fragments of data lying around in various places (preferably hinted at, or guided towards by other game elements) which allowed you to piece these traditions together.

So that when you get to the sites, you could look at it, and figure out the combinations, based on what you've learned about this ancient species traditions.

As for the OP, I agree, having the bonus payout be less makes sense to me, as it doesn't try to "force" you to get all of it done.

I see what you're saying, but to me what they've done is taken more of the risk out of the game, which it was already severely lacking.

Some people want tension, adrenaline and the challenge of getting things right under pressure.

Yeah, I can understand that POV too.

I'm not sure if this IS how FDev were thinking but I would have thought anybody who was desperately interested in it would have already done it so now it's become more of a "casual" thing, which you can just go around to test out a new ship, to earn a dollop of credits or when you want to spend a bit of time away from the usual grind/pew-pew.

On that basis, the new payment really works well.
And, I say that as somebody who did think it would have been better to just halve the value of the scans and halve the bonus.
It's just a relaxing way to spend a few hours now, which I like.

I may have to give this another look. The message delay was the #1 problem for me keeping track of the whole thing efficiently, and once I've got my mining lances (I heart Bunda) I'll be at a loose end somewhat.

FWIW, I definitely got delayed messages when I went through it last weekend.

At one point, I only ever got the updates with ever 2nd scan I completed.
I'd complete one and get no indication it'd worked.
Then I'd complete another one and get 2 updates at once.

It wasn't a huge problem, though, cos the credits WOULD keep going up with every successful scan, so all you need to do is keep an eye on the mission reward in the transactions HUD to verify it's all working properly.

The thing is, it was in the game for months but bugged. In not one, not two but 3 patches it had bug fixes that didn't fully fix it. Then months after it was introduced it was finally working, then a few weeks later they halved the pay. Both of these with no warning. Many people were waiting for it to be fully working before doing it, and didn't have the opportunity to do it in the small window in which it was both working and paying the full reward.

If they gave a warning (which they said they intended to but didn't actually do) people would have been able to take the mission (as payment was fixed at that point) and had a month to complete it after that. But no one would have thought after months of being bugged it would be nerfed a few weeks after being fixed.

Alternatively they could have let it pay the full amount for the first completion then the lower rate if you repeated it.

Having just finished the Mission with a New player, who missed one, I think the option of the low bonus is better (especially considering there was thoughts of the mission being removed)
By missing one the loss is small so it is no stress to leave it be and carry on enjoying exploring, rather than the time spent pouring over entries to try to find the missing one for the other 50% of the payout

We have been back the three different sites to try to figure out the missing one, but someone didn't keep a check list.

"Well I will just try for top 50% in the new CG to make up for it" was the reply.

Not sure why the mission was made repeatable

I mean yes the month could run out and all that I more mean, why not track the 101 entries and allow you to attempt the mission again to get the missing ones but not reward you for the data you already collected last time

Yep.

That was actually exactly where I was at with it.
I'd known about it for ages but I kept on reading about how some scans required more than one person to make them work, or they didn't work at all, and so I kept putting off doing it until I could get somebody to go around it with me.

I posted a thread about it a month or so ago and was told that it was now fixed so I gave it a go.
About a week later it got nerfed.

The fairest solution would probably be, as you say, for everybody to get the Cr100m bonus after their first attempt but then have that reduced to the Cr10m bonus for each subsequent attempt.

I guess the only issue, there, might be if somebody failed their first attempt and got no bonus and then only got the Cr10m bonus if they tried it again.
That'd be easy to fix by just awarding the Cr100m bonus for the first completely successful attempt, regardless of how many tries it took.

This would indeed make a lot of sense.

Hi Stealthie,

I was heartened to here this mate as I was a bit concerned that this mission would be removed, which would be really bad IMO. I too have been thinking of running the mission again but taking a bit longer this time and truly exploring the region a bit more while out there.

Good one!

+1 rep seeing as i can't actually rep you again so soon!

What would be nice would be if there were more in-game achievements which could be represented other than by a simple credit payment. If for instance there was a Hutton Orbital Mug you could put on your dashboard (instead of a bobblehead ideally, but as one if not) but only if you had actually visited Hutton Orbital and bought at least one of the rare. A Mug Decal would work also (better if you wish to advertise to others your achievement on the outside of your ship).

Similarly if there was a decal to represent the alien ruin's sites which you could only obtain by successfully completing the Ram Tah mission. This one might make sense as a Decal for SRVs.

Even if they were just listable in the RH Panel in a similar way to which Permits are done, it would be something. Credit reward is nice, but becomes increasingly less of a motivator as your balance increases.
