Anyone wanna tell me what this is?

I decided to pack up and go on a sight seeing tour, and stopped in the california nebula. I wanted to get a nice shot for a background so I got in my srv to get a nice pic. Figured since I was out and about i might as well look around a bit, and I came across this.... http://imgur.com/a/gBQjM

Looks like a probe of some sort? I'm sure it's been found before, I just wanna know if anyone knows what it is?

It's a random POI that is generated when you are driving. It has a data link node and you can target it, use your data link scanner on it and gather some intelligence that usually can be sold to one of the superpowers. You can see what you got if you go to your transactions tab on the left panel side.

I found one about 9,000 LY from Colonia on the other side of the core once, so yeah they are all over the place out there, rare, but they're there...

I've just found 3 on the same planet, so not sure about how rare they are. :) Eol Prou WD-Q c6-13 A 3, about 172Ly from Colonia.

I ran across 2 in the Pleiades sectors. Both were guarded by 3 skimmers so I couldn't get a close look. Mean little suckers...

Speaking of that, would I need to jack up the ammo to take out 3 skimmers? While roaming a planet looking for rare elements I always encounter containers guarded by skimmers. I'm tired of passing them by but, I don't want to get ended in a stupid move attacking a bunch of flying weapons.

What you need to do is make sure the skimmers are wanted. If they are not wanted then you'll get a bounty for attacking them with the faction that owns them. The skimmers guarding stuff on the surface are easy to kill without increasing the ammo potency. Just be ready to drive backwards while shooting and take them one at a time. Obviously 4 pips to shields will help and you can always move out of their range recharge your shield, fix your hull and go back in again. If you are not close to the bubble and you only have one SRV, think twice about attacking as there is always the possibility of something going wrong. However, I've never found skimmers outside the bubble.
