Route plotting in 2.4

Last edited:
The beta change log states that route plotting will now be out to 20,000LY!!!!!

That is awesome...

Frawd

and

• Updated route plotting system:
• maximum route plotting range is now 20Kly
• route plotting is much faster
• there is now an option to make use of neutron star boost when plotting routes
• an icon is displayed on the route to show the last scoopable star before running out of fuel

Halleluja! Sounds great

Yay for those routing enhancements. :)
Also, hull and canopy repair limpets. Heatsinks can be synthed.

I hope the option to repair the canopy with an AFMU is still there. I'm on an extended trip that will keep me away from stations and the last thing I need right now is to lose the ability to repair my canopy in case of an accident. Plus the extra weight of the limpet controller is not something I'm looking forward to.

A 20K route from the Bubble towards Sag A* took about 12 seconds to plot.

AFMU still repairs the canopy. I assume the limpets are for repairing other ships, not your own.

Heat sinks can now be manufactured via synthesis but they require manufactured mats (eg basic conductors), not mats which can be collected on an exploration mission.

Thank you so much, Allitnil, for the information. Truly appreciated. :)

Self-repair of the hull works like a charm. Route plotting is indeed very fast. Mods for the Repair Limpet Controller looks non-existent.

Comes in different classes, 1D is 0.5t.

Limpet engineers refuses to work with the repair limpet controller, Tiana Fortune, The Sarge and Ram Tah.

Description says cargo bay.

Thank you! 0.5T is not too bad and I guess for more working limpets this will go up, decreasing the repair times. Still I have no idea when I'll be back at a port so hull repair is not an option. As long as I can repair my canopy if an accident happens the rest is down to me being careful as always.

Mutters something about the good old days before route plotters existed :D

Some interesting additions there.

Kamzel is still limping home from the Distant Worlds expedition and is down to 10% hull, he left Pallaeni when there were no engineers, and now returns when hull repair limpets have finally been invented!

9K to go so I can get him repaired out in the black before he reaches frontier borders :)

10%, ouch! Someone can meet up with you perhaps and repair your hull after 2.4 comes live? Hull Repair Rats? Or will the awesome Fuel Rats make repairs also? I'd be happy to help you but I'm at the edge of the galaxy for the foreseeable future.

The Repair Rats. I love it!

At the moment I can only bear doing 500 LYs at a time before I lose the will to live and log off for a week or two. So its going to be a while before I get him closer to the bubble and get a repair rat out to fix him. :)

Die later, there's still time to sign for an expedition or two, Erimus.

We've talked about it internally, and the general consensus (from last i heard) was Fuel is our main job, so hull repair will be non-mandatory for a rat.

If one has space and inclination, then Rats will do repairs, and certainly a call coming in for hull repair (only) will be put out for rats to call on. Realistically i expect hull repair requests to be few, and rats will fulfil every client request for one.

EDIT: i should add, if it's legitimate requests. Much like combat pilots asking for Fuel Rats to power their plasma accelerators, rats are known to decline calling on non-emergency jobs.
tl;dr explorers? yes. sitting in a hazres in a system with stations? good luck... ;)

With limplet synthesis, one would hope that both repair and fuel limplet controllers (and a small cargo bay) become standard explorer equipment. I certainly plan on carrying both.

I don't suppose they've also finally made it so that you can stack filters in the Galaxy Map yet, have they? That is to say, make it so that you can, for example, set the map to show only F-type stars that you have not yet visited, rather than only being able to have either one or the other filter active at once? That's something I always thought was a pretty frustrating oversight on their part.
