Hovercraft?

What are the odds of getting some sort of hovering or jet power vehicle for surface exploration? I'm loving elite in vr, but every time I land on a planet I pretty much have to swap back to desktop as the rover is extremely nauseating for me :(

that aside it'd be nice to have a little variety for surface exploration as well, we have dozens of ships, why only 1 rover?

I agree. I often jump boost across planets as much as i can because its a much less jaring experiance.

Maybe at least provide a second hover transformation function to our SRV's for long distance travel and wheels down for pottering about and interacting.

In another thread (or two) there was discussion about the SLF and potential improvements, and I have always liked the idea of a purely exploration/recreation SLF for many reasons but the VR aspect is one that I had not considered, having never played in VR myself. I use my SLF as a surface recon/scout vehicle and would like to see the option to have discovery tools fitted instead of hard points. Perhaps instead of an exploration SLF, it could be an entirely new class of vehicle or a hover variant of the SRV?

Completely agree, tbh not sure why our rovers even look like v2 of our current mars rovers. Driving or even hovering doesn't seem ideal for a lot of terrain out there. a small ship that could perform the functions of our srvs would be great as well.

Why not a player-owned, controlled and deployed Skimmer and call it done?

They're basically floating SRV's anyways, except when they're raining down on the heads of you nose-dive landers.

There are some graphics options specifically designed to try and avoid this - have you tried playing with those? I also had problems first of all, but once I'd updated the settings (can't remember what to, am not near the gaming PC) it was fine.

I agree. They should also just be considered remote operated from the ship. The player should be able to revert control back to the ship as needed.

Put this in the suggestions thread when SRV's came out and a few times after. I think one of the leads said it would make the work on the SRV wasted so they weren't doing it.

But logically it makes zero sense to have flying fighters and skimmers and not have a player skimmer, shuttle or exploration ship (ship's boat) to avoid all the jarring driving and exploding SRV madness.

Can you imagine landing on Earth when FD release that update and all the transportation still requires wheels? That would be dumb.

The sidewinder is your friend, it even scoops cargo right of the planets surface, no SRV required.

I'll poke around with these, thanks! I'm not sure how much it'll be able to help the "user induced nausea" due to my bad driving but it's worth a shot!

I get nauseated driving the SUV, so I refuse to use it - to the point where I accept that some gameplay and some upgrades is now off limits.

I'd like some sort of ground vehicle that doesn't bounce up and down so sickeningly. A slow, heavy tracked vehicle would be fine. Hovering would be great too.

As much fun as I have with the SRV, it's lonely and needs some buddies to live in the hangar bays next door, both air and ground units. I can see FD not wanting to invalidate the existing ride, so I think more diversity and specialized sub-rides might be better than something that just Pythons any other external vehicle by being good at all the everything.

In Red Dwarf, the book not the TV program, Lister drove a ground vehicle on that jumped like a frog. Personally, I'd probably hate it but it could be fun for some players and add some interesting gameplay.

Voicing approval. A hovercraft/specialized SLF/remote controlled skimmer - once you reach anything other than flat terrain with the SRV in VR it's straight to nausealand. Better speed, half the cargo space and less hull and make some heavier SRVs for balancing. Lot's of eels and floating tanks!

Yea need more SUVs. Like a Hover tank. Add NPCs with tanks around bases for more interesting gameplay.
