Yes After I asked the question I looked it up. Well being playing for 2.5 years now and only really got into the depths since i got the Corvette. So being exployering the game in general.
I think the main thing is to do things you like doing - I tend to vary what I do so I don't get bored of any one particular thing.
If I log in and I'm alone, I like gathering materials for engineering bits n pieces on my fleet, and if I log in and some of my buddies are online, I'll join in with whatever they're up to - maybe a CG or a civil war, or sometimes we go group material-gathering - this works best with base running (which you mainly do for CIF and MEF) because everyone gets a go, and it's fun to spend a few minutes mucking around at the base, looking for likely ramps for long-jump competitions, or trying to boost up to a really difficult spot, before moving on to the next base.
Just keep the variety up, keep doing what you find to be fun, and all the ranks and stuff will come in time.
Yes In the process of Classified Scan Databanks to unlock "Ram Tah" Seems to be a bit of a challange that. Also Trying to get Vette's FSD to greater than 16Ly range. It was at 18.2Ly but Messing about with doing something else and re-engineered FSD instead silly Billy.
Now Have Two FSD 6A which I play with till I get the correct range I HOPE....

Just recently added a new account, thought bout doing it awhile back when storage was an issue, our faction had a couple commanders with a second account just for storage of the faction engineer requirements, they would store the stuff for the faction for when they needed to unlock an engineer or to do upgrades, then they removed the requirement for commodities and engineers, and a second account wasn't as imperative anymore. But then multicrew came along and I thought, could have my second account multicrew with me for the extra pip, which is nice if it worked for any length of time, every time I jump to a new system theres a chance I lose my multicrew connection and have to set everything back up, and since my second commander just sits there looking pretty (and I made her as pretty as I could with the limited tools available), she don't get much in the way of income from it, might clear a couple hundred grand from a 5 mil bounty hunting run. Oh well, so now it is a dedicated exploration account, she is out exploring the cosmos while her "husband" stays in the bubble with all the assets. And the multicrew aspect is good for the conjugal visits every now and then. She has 2200 hundred potential first discoveries so far, but has a long way to go to catch up to the 35k first discoveries her "husband" has accumulated, but she has 4 earth likes so far and has over 70 mil in scan data, think I will keep her out til she accumulates enough to make elite in exploration, then she will have enough cash to upgrade from the DBX she is currently in, and will have access to Shinrarta as well.
There is always something to do in Elite if you set a goal to accomplish something, my main account is one Fed Rank short of Admiral, still have 78% to go, but ain't in a hurry for that, already triple Elite and King, never tried CQC, went into it once to rank up but never got a match and said the heck with it, ain't tried it again. But with the second account, can do what I really enjoy, exploring, and I don't have to rush back to do faction stuff and cutting my "black" trips short cause of some BGS war or something, now he just stays in the bubble. And as the Icy Rock King, it is my job to find and name every Icy Rock that other explorers deem unimportant to scan, haha...that leaves more for me, I've been known to travel 500k LS to scan a single one, and currently have over 12k icy rocks alone.

As far as i know, somebody is travelling in a sidey to Sag A- so thats nothing new.
Maybe riding on a pony to beagle point?
