Who's going to compete to get their name on a ship?

I would but with it being a working week I'm not even going to try. Top 1 cmdr will be at least 200,000T if I have my guess right, probably nearer 400k. Shame it didn't start on Thurs night/Fri morning to co-incide with the UK bank holiday.

Compete?! With all those Cutters coming and going clogging up the slot?

Add in a few NPC Belugas and it may be fun to go and watch though.

Its going to be total chaos with a few stations in the same system selling Power Generators with plenty of stock
I am parked up @ the CG station in my fully loaded 704 Ton Gold Cutter waiting for the Cg to start Should be fun
Just hope i remember to sign up first lol

I won't be doing and I have to say that I think games promoting what we all know will end up as basically an endurance test amongst their player base isn't particularly responsible.

It also excludes at least 95% of their players from ever having even the most remote chance of competing for it because they have jobs. Seriously, that's not the usual 'waahhhh I have a life' crap that you read as a justification why someone can't do something in the game, there is simply no way that this is being won by a player who only has 'only' (lol) six hours a day to play.

Don't think this is some personally salty response by the way; I'm actually off work for the next two weeks and have made so few plans that I could literally ship stuff for this until my eyes fell out of my head if I wanted to, going full Korean MMO style. I don't want to and won't be doing - entirely my choice.

It would however be good to see FDev value players for something more than their willingness and ability to simply perform repetitive tasks for an incomprehensible amount of time. Perhaps next time they're thinking of doing something like this, they could come up with something slightly more imaginative to determine who wins?

Note, I will be participating, same as I do with most CGs when I'm in the bubble, I just won't be going for the prize. I've ended up in the top 10% for most trade CGs that I've made a decent effort for (Morai ♥) but the distance from the middle of the top 10% to the top 10 commanders is usually significant and it definitely will be for this one.

I was also amazed that they haven't done it over the bank holiday weekend, I can only assume that it's an attempt to remove that as an unfair advantage for UK players but since whoever wins it will likely not be in full time employment to begin with, I can't say I think it will make much difference.

Oh! Let the Cutters have their fun! They lost out on the last couple and they need to make some bank just to afford to get those things cleaned! How else are they supposed to bask?

Poor T9's they'll try.. but always the bridesmaid.

Let the Cutterfest begin!! :D

Pay attention to the name of the CG. It's a special one put in to celebrate a major celestial event happening tomorrow that's been getting hyped up for years.

...and yet had completely passed me by. Probably because it apparently won't be visible as a total eclipse here in the UK. Oh and it's going to be sunset where I live when it happens so yeah, that's the hype train right off the tracks chez Anders.

If it was running over three days where I didn't have to work (and could shuffle non-work commitments out of the way) I would be tempted to have an ED marathon for it. But it's not, and I'm not naive enough to think that there's a shot at winning without playing for most of the 76 hours. So I'll just be supporting it to the same extent I would support any other Imperial CG.

Of course, in the worst case scenarios it may be outright impossible for a lone player to win. If the CG is popular enough to drain nearby systems and it becomes faster to transfer a Cutter full of cargo between ships than it is to make a cargo run, it will probably be won by a player group which hauls in cargo for one of their members who just ferries it into the station. Or player groups could use VPNs (for undetectability) to rotate fresh players on a single account for maximum speed cargo runs over the entire 76 hours.

Edit: Actually, calling it now for posterity. The winner will be a member of one of the prominent player groups.

i might bring one of my cutters, not to compete - just to block the slot ^_^ ^_^

I seriously doubt the top 1 cmdr will spend any time in Open mode. Even in a cutter with engineered shields and thursters capable of outrunning any other ship you'll still get at least 10 ships lining up to interdict you, when the routine 2 minutes to get from system entry to the station turns into 15 minutes there's a real no-brainer there for anyone going for the #1 spot.
